Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Egypt Thomas. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Egypt, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. How do you feel about asking friends and family to support your business? What’s appropriate, what’s not? Where do you draw the line?
When I started my business I didn’t start with employees or a team and honestly, 2 years in, I still don’t have those things. But what I do have is a loving and supportive group of family and friends who will help when needed. My business requires a lot of hands on work; it’s very labor intense. I spend hours upon hours blowing up balloons for events, creating props for sets and editing tons of photos. During those times I will ask my family and friends for their support to get the job done. Whether that’s an extra set of hands to help assemble a 24ft. balloon garland or their advice on the final edits of photos. It’s all so helpful. Being a single mom of two young boys, I sometimes can’t let them tag along to certain events. This is where their support has helped out tremendously. Now many would disagree that this is not the support that’s needed to help your business grow; where’s the financial support? Of course they’ve helped support my business financially, but I would say this isn’t the support that matters the most. Knowing that you can count of your family and friends to help when things get tough, when business isn’t “booming” and you can’t hire help, knowing that they will gladly step in to help you succeed is the best support of it all.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I’d like to think of myself as a visionary creative; if that’s a title to be had. Since childhood, I discovered my God given talent of taking an idea, something ordinary, and bringing it to life by putting my own creative touch to it. It didn’t matter what it involved; parties, crafting, painting, theatrical plays; I was all for it.
I’m Egypt, the owner of Events 2 Do for three exciting years now, a mom of two wonderful boys, and I’m also an educator at Taliaferro County Schools.
At Events 2 Do we service businesses, photographers, stylists and other clientele offering balloon decor in all forms such as arches, columns, garlands, and so much more. We also offer photography services and set design for clients wanting to bring more visual to their brand and/or events with creative backdrops and unique props commonly known now as “Selfie Booths or Selfie Museum”. This has been quite a popular service for my business. We are most interested in what the client envisions for their event; making event planning easy, unique and beautiful.
My goal now is to build my brand by gaining more exposure with pop-up booths in various cities and soon opening my very own selfie museum.
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
Consistency and quality is key! I feel it is a business owners responsibility to provide great service to their clients. I’ve always had a spirit of excellence in whatever I did, so when my clients sought out a service, I would make certain that they were pleased; that’s what keeps them coming back. Knowing that they can trust that I will deliver and meet or exceed their expectations every single time. By providing great services my reputation among others grew from the kind words that these clients had to say about my work.
What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
Social media has been my greatest marketing tool when it comes to growing my clientele. Everyone is on some social media platform, if not all of them. Yes, keeping up with all the latest trends on social media can be time consuming, but it is something that has worked for me. I make sure that I am showing my clients and potential clients what they can expect from my business by posting videos with trending music and reels to make my posts more attractive. Thus sparking their interest and leads them to want to do business with me. I also like to be aware of the newest trends inside my market; what’s popular, what styles are people choosing. This strategy has been quite effective when it comes to keeping what I offer fresh and exciting.
