We were lucky to catch up with Effy Han recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Effy thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Did you always know you wanted to pursue a creative or artistic career? When did you first know?
I realized my passion for acting when I discovered that TV characters are real people acting. This concept intrigued me: while we live one life as ourselves, acting allows us to experience various roles in one lifetime. I’m captivated by the idea of living multiple lives through acting, making it the most exciting pursuit for me. I want to be an actor.
Effy, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
1, Seven years ago, I moved to the States to chase an acting career, drawn by Hollywood’s reputation as the pinnacle of the TV and film industry. I aimed to work alongside the best talents and make my mark in this industry. 2, I’m particularly intrigued by characters who transform from wounded children into villains. Rather than portraying traditional bad guys, I’m drawn to those who’ve been hurt, left to fend for themselves, and ultimately took a wrong path. These characters aren’t evil in their own eyes; they’re simply grappling with a challenging world. These are the roles I’m most passionate about.
3,I’m comfortable with vulnerability on stage. In fact, I enjoy sharing my inner self with the audience, revealing that despite our differences, we all share the same longing for love and connection. I believe evil stems from experiences and beliefs, not inherent nature. We’re born as spiritual beings, and societal influences shape us differently. By fostering understanding, we can prevent evil actions from arising.
4.That’s precisely why I aspire to be an artist, an actor, a storyteller. I’m convinced that stories possess the ability to directly touch people’s hearts and souls, transcending complexities and avoiding misunderstandings caused by the mind.
5.I’m also a big admirer of meticulously choreographed action films, finding joy in the graceful interplay of martial arts or combat sequences. This fascination has motivated me to train personally. While I wouldn’t claim professional expertise, I’m dedicated to learning. Beyond being a motorcyclist, I’m engaged in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and explore various martial arts when time and energy allow.
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
My ultimate career aspiration is to establish my own creative community, a tribe of sorts. With a deep passion for captivating fiction and novels, I envision having a production company surrounded by a talented team of friends, essentially my artistic family. Together, we’ll curate exceptional stories, whether screenplays or novels, and bring them to life through live action, film, or animation. My goal is to contribute to compelling storytelling alongside those I deeply respect and care for.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
Absolutely, the most fulfilling aspect of being an artist, especially a storyteller, is our ability to communicate what’s hard to express verbally or logically. There are emotions and ideas that resist conventional description, yet we’re compelled to convey them. Through a hero’s journey, a well-crafted story allows us to delve into the intricacies of humanity, attempting to comprehend and express what words can’t capture. This is where singing, dancing, and acting come in – they become our means to communicate the ineffable, offering profound satisfaction in the process.
