We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Edwina Gray. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Edwina below.
Alright, Edwina thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Alright, so you had your idea and then what happened? Can you walk us through the story of how you went from just an idea to executing on the idea
Looking back, I never really saw myself as a business owner from the get-go. I’ve always thrived in team environments, especially when I was younger. My journey into entrepreneurship actually started with a bit of a sting—a guy, believe it or not. Back then, I was freelancing and enjoying some really great opportunities. But this particular individual kept challenging and, frankly, ridiculing my approach. When that relationship ended, I felt like I had a lot to prove to myself.
Initially, maintaining a reserve of motivation was crucial for me to stay the course. To be candid, my mantra back then was as simple as it gets: ‘Don’t quit.’ While my approach has evolved significantly since then, at the time, it was all about staying optimistic and keeping the momentum going.
Capturing a chronological play-by-play of my journey is challenging because the birth, beginning, and blossoming of my business occurred at distinct phases; so it’d be more of a deep dive. Each phase represents a unique chapter in my entrepreneurial story.
Edwina, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
In the midst of several freelance projects, I received a game-changing message from actress KJ Smith via Twitter, inquiring about my availability for new clients. This moment marked a significant shift and set the stage for collaborations that would define my path in entertainment PR. While there were many factors influencing my decision to pursue this field, these experiences were pivotal in shaping my career trajectory. While my career in California was rooted in Public Relations, it wasn’t until my move to Texas that it evolved to encompass more marketing aspects.
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
In every story, there are threads of resilience woven through the fabric, as challenges and rejections are inherent in any journey. Striving for excellence and answering the call to reach higher are integral parts of my life’s ethos.
Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
I mentioned before, I lived, went to school, and worked in Orange County for about 8 years. My focus went from Public Relations to Marketing almost instantly upon moving to Texas. So I had to dig into a different bag.. it was my study in school so it wasn’t a hard reach, but it was for sure a complete shift in gears. I also had to pivot my business about 5 years in… I’m not opposed to a sit down, a little tea time. :)
