We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Edwin Sheriff. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Edwin below.
Alright, Edwin thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Risking taking is a huge part of most people’s story but too often society overlooks those risks and only focuses on where you are today. Can you talk to us about a risk you’ve taken – it could be a big risk or a small one – but walk us through the backstory.
I love this question because My whole career was a risk. In 2011 when I was about graduate, I didn’t look for more schools to go to. I pursued music societal pressures and all. I call it a “risk” because that’s what they called it. Although people spoke on the possibility of my dreams not coming to fruition, I never thought I wouldn’t make it.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My name is Edwin Michael Sheriff. I’m a recording artist/actor amongst other things. I got into music and acting through divine inspiration. Really I just saw a Michael Jackson music video annd Heath Ledger in Batman and that was it haha. I ghostwrote for others and am still actively a signed recording artist. So at the moment my music is what I’m offering along side my acting. What sets me apart from others is what separates them from me! A long list of unique idiosyncrasies and personal passions. I am most proud of how far I have come. What I want future fans to know is that I love you and I want us to get better together.
During opening week last month I played the principal role of “Mister” in The Color Purple and took on 5 different ensemble roles for closing week: all of this with a three week notice as an understudy. I am overjoyed to exceed my own expectations and tap into sides of me truthfully and wholly. Thank you to the people involved! Can’t wait to see what else is on the horizon.
How’d you meet your business partner?
I met my brother from another mother in 2009. And started doing music with him in 2013 in my mothers basement. Ever since then I have been blazing a trail from that inspiration.
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
It’s the practice everyday for me. I show resilience by continuing to show up. The work can be harrowing. I was an athlete in high school so I know how it feels to have to push thru just to make the game easier.
