We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Edwin Echevarria a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Edwin thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. If you had a defining moment that you feel really changed the trajectory of your career, we’d love to hear the story and details.
One client I trained came to me with depression, anxiety, and fear of never being able to find a healthy relationship or have children. She was over 300 pounds at a height of 5’4. After 6 months of training she lost 75 pounds and became the strongest version of herself that she had ever been. She gained the confidence to begin dating and ended up finding love and having her first child. The strength she gained from the process of transforming herself gave me the confidence to pursue this field on a deeper level and has always served as a reminder to me how important it is to make what I teach adaptable to everyone.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
As a certified strength coach, I provide a comprehensive range of services aimed at helping individuals achieve their fitness goals and maximize their performance. Whether you are an athlete looking to improve your athletic abilities or someone simply looking to lead a healthier lifestyle, my expertise and tailored programs can guide anyone towards success.
My journey to becoming a certified strength coach was fueled by a passion for health and an innate desire to help others become the most powerful version of themselves . I obtained a certification with the National Strength and Conditioning Federation and am currently pursuing a masters in Human performance at Lehman College. Through my extensive training and ongoing professional development, I have gained a deep understanding of human anatomy, physiology, and exercise mechanics.
One of the primary services I offer as a strength coach is personalized training programs. I believe that no two individuals are the same, and each person requires a unique approach to suit their specific needs. By assessing their fitness level, identifying their goals, and understanding any underlying medical conditions or injuries, I can design a training program tailored to their requirements. These programs may include strength training, cardiovascular exercises, flexibility routines, and even nutrition guidance to ensure optimal results.
As a certified strength coach, I am also equipped to provide guidance and support in injury prevention and rehabilitation. Whether you are recovering from an orthopedic injury or looking to prevent future injuries, I can develop exercise routines targeting the specific areas of concern while considering your overall fitness goals.
Additionally, I offer guidance and expertise in the areas of sports performance training. If you are an athlete aiming to excel in your chosen sport, my specialized training programs can improve your strength, speed, power, agility, and endurance. By incorporating sports-specific exercises and conditioning techniques, I can help you gain a competitive edge and reach your full athletic potential.
I am most proud of my ability to be empathetic with all my clients. I have trained as both a competitive martial artist in both Judo and Brazilian Jujitsu and as a competitive powerlifter. I have adapted my strength training for both athletic endeavors and pursue it in my everyday life. This allows me to understand the ebbs and flows of adjusting to the challenges of being consistent with an exercise program under various circumstances.
My business can be found at breaklimit.org and represents the gift I have of helping people break what they feel limits them from being their best selves.
Other than training/knowledge, what do you think is most helpful for succeeding in your field?
Empathy. In order for me to push someone pass their limits without damaging their emotional being I must be empathetic to how they feel throughout the process and learn to gauge the difference between motivating them and pushing them and being verbally aggressive in my pursuit to motivate them.
Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
The most effective strategy for growing my clientele has been showcasing my knowledge during their initial assessment. Showing them how small changes can have a major impact on their movement quality or even how they feel during a movement has helped me convert many initial assessments into long lasting clients.
