We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Edwin De La Rosa a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Edwin, thanks for joining us today. Has your work ever been misunderstood or mischaracterized?
Misunderstood or mischaracterized? Where do I begin. Ok, I’m a story teller so let’s start with most producers thinking I need a chance to be a star. (lol) That is the opposite of what my vision is. I need to create whole worlds. Let us say an alternate reality of time and space. Including characters each with their own traits good or bad. Then I need to take all of that and put it into a wonderful little package of sight and sound which can be shared with everyone. Hopefully one that will delight or forever haunt its viewers. You see everything I create is not about me it’s about my ability to communicate all the crazy things I envision to everyone humanly possible.
Edwin, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Actually I think this has been my destiny because. I was the little kid stapling paper together to write my own books before I started school. In the fourth grade, I had read more books than anyone in the school. Unfortunately I was an orphan so higher education was slightly possible only through the military. (lol) but I did get to see the World. Somehow I wound-up where I needed to be back creating, writing, singing and dancing performing on stage and screen. As far as business, I am self taught and as far as scripting I learned from the best on the front lines from coast to coast. ( I am a three time REMI-Award winning screen writer.) I love and am proficient with Final Draft. Warner Brothers format is my personal favorite. Our Company Krystal Rose Productions Houston, provides classes, re-writes and formatting for scripts, choreography for stunts and staged combat as well as most printing for logos and advertising. We also provide videography and will try to help others in this industry. How are we different from others? No job or project is too big or too small to give it our personal best.
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
Do you mean besides becoming world famous and immortal? (lol) Yes there is and that would be to complete a ninety to one hundred and twenty minute feature length film that actually makes a profit. By profit I mean total budget cost multiplied by one point five. By budget I mean complete cost of everything, legal, food, housing, transportation, equipment, props, actors, extras, no one works for free. If we accomplish that we have a scalable business. After all it is called “Show Business.” Without profits, it’s just another show.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The bringing of a thought into existence. Molding, shaping that which has no form into our physical world for all to see… I’m Edwin De La Rosa and I approve this message.
