We recently connected with Edwin Borquez Pierrot and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Edwin , thanks for joining us today. Let’s kick things off with your mission – what is it and what’s the story behind why it’s your mission?
Curl Daddy, The Love Yourself Brand is all about loving your hair but most importantly loving yourself. Our mission as a brand is to make our customers ( The Curly Crew) understand the importance of knowing how to style, care and protect their curly hair but most importantly their heart. Our community needs to understand that in order to elevate from within there is a process that has to happen within yourself. That process includes cleaning up anything that no longer serves you or elevate your soul. Laying down certain things in your journey that will naturally flow instead of wanting to have total control. Reviving a new version of yourself and following with nourishing yourself with specific things to fuel you from within. Learning how to hold on to the vision no matter what is happening or what you are seeing with your eyes in your surroundings. Once you are able to understand and put the steps into practice a change begins to occur which causes a glow that only comes from within. A glow that most people seek out but can only be found inside of you. This is an outgoing journey which you have to keep restoring and purifying. Our mission is to invite everyone to embark on a journey back to themselves and welcome a rebirth. As a founder I personally had to embark on that journey that taught me how to love my hair but most importantly love myself.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Curl Daddy, the “love yourself” brand, is a vegan haircare brand for curly gentleman and magical enough for the ladies. Our line consists of products that are:
Vegan
Gluten Free, No SD Alcohol
Sulfate Free, Paraben Free
Cruelty Free, Phthalate Free
No Sodium Chloride
Safe for colored, straightened, and chemically treated hair

…and promote healthy scalp & hair growth.
Founded in 2020, the Curl Daddy brand message is love your hair, but most importantly, love yourself; as your body/scalp absorbs 60% of what is applied. (i.e. products & chemicals.) To date, the brand has garnered success in the industry to include completing the Workshop at Macy’s, and being a twice-nominated Fashion Group International (FGI) Rising Star nominee. Curl Daddy is also currently available on Amazon.com, Walmart.com and Glosswire.com.
Curl Daddy founder, Edwin Evangelista Borquez Pierrot, has a love for curly hair that spans decades and across countries. As a lover of style and texture, he began life in the pristine countryside of the Dominican Republic until the tender age of seven when he relocated to the United States where New Jersey became his home. As a boy, Edwin would find himself playing, teasing, and adding style to his sister’s hair; a joy that stayed with him until this day.
Edwin quickly learned that his personal image could take him far in life. During his teen years he began working as a fashion model. With a look chiseled in the Caribbean, he found success in front of the camera but not always behind it. It was during these formative years of modeling that Edwin learned his majestic curls were deemed troublesome and unmanageable by the very industry that he had grown to adore. While he thought about how to be more marketable with the abundance of hair that he was born with, he began to consider the lives of other beautiful people who are experiencing the same challenge. He then took time to assess the various products that he had used throughout his life and what was available in the market. With careful strategy, comparison & contrast, Edwin discerned what needed to be removed, what was missing, and what would be needed for himself and curly men – and women – around the world.
Edwin’s journey took him on a search to find a product that had all natural ingredients, smelled exquisite and didn’t require the assistance of a hair stylist in case the budget did not allow such visits. Finally, after two years of research & development, Edwin found the formulas that led him to launch Curl Daddy, LLC, in 2020 as the “love yourself” haircare brand, birthed solely for curly men – and women – to know what it feels like to love your hair and love yourself. Today, Edwin has gained respect in the market as a two-time Fashion Group International (FGI) Rising Star nominee in the Beauty Entrepreneur category, completed the Workshop at Macy’s, a speaker at the Making it IN Fashion Conference, and been featured on InStyle.com.
Have you ever had to pivot?
Curl Daddy was launched at the beginning of 2020 and I honestly had plans which was going to keep me behind the scenes. Well the pandemic hit March 2020 and that shifted everything in the books. This pushed me to become the face of the brand and keep marketing the brand via my phone across all social media platforms. I honestly did not stop and it was such a busy period of time for me. I had to wear every hat and learn how to do things that I never think I would execute. It really pushed me in so many ways but I understood that there was purpose in it. Some days I would ask myself, ” Can I do this? ” That is when I would get a message or email from a client from their experience with the brand and how it was helping them in their journey. That kept me pushing forward and also thinking ahead on ways to keep pushing the brand, the message and the journey. That second year was when we were selected to be one of the 25 out of 700 brands to participate in the Workshop at Macys. Lesson of the store is to always keep going especially when what you are doing is connected to purpose.
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
In the journey I had to unlearn how to stop doing everything on my own and stop working IN the business and focus on working ON the business. I had to really look at what I needed to shift in the business. Thats when i started having conversation with some friends in business and started to work with Elliot Carlyle at Currently Global as brand consultant. When you decide to build at the beginning it will be difficult but as you go you start learning and growing. In addition you start meeting the people that are suppose to help you to build the vision.
