We recently connected with Edward Joseph and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Edward, thanks for joining us today. We’d love to hear the backstory behind a risk you’ve taken – whether big or small, walk us through what it was like and how it ultimately turned out.
Back in December of 2022, I decided to take a leap of faith to pursue music full time. The decision weighed heavily on me, and I couldn’t help but think of the risks. How would I pay the bills? What if I failed in the competitive music industry? The list of questions go on..
I knew it would be a very difficult decision for me to make these drastic changes, but I also stayed confident in the fact that it would bring me one step closer to being able to live my life exactly the way I’ve always desired.
It’s important to note that not all risks lead to success, and taking reckless or ill-considered risks can have negative consequences. Therefore, while risk-taking is important in the music industry, it should be balanced with careful planning, strategy, and a strong understanding of one’s audience and goals. Successful artists often strike a balance between pushing boundaries and making informed decisions to navigate the ever-changing landscape of the music industry.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Since 2018 I have been paving my way as a DJ/producer, percussionist, and vocalist in Arizona and have been seen playing events at Sunbar, Shady Park, Decadence, and Goldrush, as well as headlining HoriZen Music Festival. In addition to performing in Arizona, I have recently been found performing in cities such as Seattle, LA, San Diego, Vegas & New York City alongside profound artists such as Kream, SIDEPIECE, Le Youth, Amtrac and Aluna.
Aside from my personal aspirations as an artist, I specialize as an audio professional responsible for the final stage of music production before it’s released to the public as a mixing/mastering engineer. My primary goal is to ensure that a song or album sounds polished, cohesive, and optimized for various playback systems.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
Mental health, often overlooked in the hustle and bustle of our daily lives, is a cornerstone of our overall well-being. It’s a gentle reminder that we are not invincible, and just like our bodies, our minds require care and attention. In a world that sometimes values productivity over inner peace, it’s essential to recognize the profound importance of mental health and that is the driving factor that motivates me to create music.
I strive to create music that provides the same act of service that it has done for me. My overall goal is to create music that inspires and touches the hearts of others, and most importantly, allows the listener to not feel alone.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
Besides creating an atmosphere enjoyed by all on a dance-floor, the most rewarding aspect comes from the personal connections that are made from the music that I create. Whether it’s a passer by, a text message, or a DM via social media, the messages I receive from those who have not only taken the time to listen to my music but share their stories of how they connected emotionally to it or found inspiration in their own endeavors is a feeling I haven’t yet found the appropriate words to describe but it motivates me to continue on.
