We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Edsha L Jones a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Edsha L, appreciate you joining us today. Risk taking is something we’re really interested in and we’d love to hear the story of a risk you’ve taken.
One of the biggest risks I’ve taken was stepping into an industry that was completely outside my comfort zone and going all in on mentorship. I reached a point where I knew that what I was doing—while successful—wasn’t going to lead me to the ultimate freedom or life I envisioned. I was tired of trying to figure it all out on my own, and I knew if I wanted different, I had to move differently.
So, I took a leap and pivoted into the finance industry, knowing it could give me true passive income and long-term security. At the same time, I invested heavily in mentorship to help me monetize my expertise in beauty and scale my business beyond just working behind the chair. It was a gamble, but I also knew: no risk, no reward. And looking back? It was the best decisions I’ve ever made.
Edsha L, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
For those who don’t know me yet, my name is Edsha Love, and I wear two powerful hats: beauty and finance. On the beauty side, I help stylists develop the skills and business strategies to increase their income without taking on more clients or working longer hours. I believe that being a stylist isn’t just about “doing hair”—it’s about creating a brand, owning your value, and turning your craft into a high-level business that truly serves others.
On the finance side, I help families build generational wealth through holistic financial planning. That means making sure they have life insurance, wills, powers of attorney, emergency funds, Roth IRAs, and other key investments in place—while also making financial literacy accessible and understandable. A lot of people don’t realize that finance is an industry you can’t just jump into on your own—you have to be sponsored. That’s another role I take on: guiding motivated individuals through the process of getting their state and federal licenses so they, too, can build a legacy in this space.
These two industries might seem different on the surface, but for me, they’re deeply connected. I remember the exact moments when I felt a shift—first, when I elevated from just a stylist to a true beauty business owner, providing premium services & extensions that gave my clients confidence and transformed my career. And second, when I started diving deep into financial literacy, structuring my own financial house, and helping others do the same. That feeling of empowerment is something I’ll never forget, and it’s exactly what I want to pass on to others.
What sets me apart is my belief in servant leadership. Integrity and accountability are at the core of everything I do. I believe in open, honest communication—even when the conversations are tough—because real growth happens in those moments. I’m far from perfect, but I stand on my good character, credibility, and commitment to serving at the highest level. My work is about more than just business; it’s about changing lives, and I love being able to make a real impact.
Do you have multiple revenue streams – if so, can you talk to us about those streams and how your developed them?
Absolutely! I believe any service provider who’s serious about financial freedom should find ways to turn one stream of income into multiple. For me, that started with owning The Luxury Hair Lab, my luxury extensions brand. Not only do I sell high-quality extensions online—with the option for shipping or local pickup—but 95% of the installs I provide are done with hair from my brand. My clients trust me, and they love the convenience of a one-stop shop, making it a win-win for both of us.
Beyond styling and retail, I’ve created several e-books that I’m extremely proud of because they aren’t just theory—I use the principles in my own life and business. My top three favorites:
• My Daily Gratitude Journal – This guided journal includes prompts and exercises designed to help people cultivate gratitude, shift their mindset, and make the most of their journaling experience.
• The Ultimate Vendor Directory – A must-have for anyone looking to start their own luxury extensions business. It features some of the BEST vendors in the industry, including Raw, Indian, and Celebrity Hair suppliers. Plus, it comes with a communication guide to ensure vendors respect your business from day one.
• Secure the Bag: Financial Mastery for Beautypreneurs – This one might be my favorite because it’s exactly what I wish I had when I started my business. It covers everything beauty pros and CEOs need to manage, master, and scale their finances—pricing, taxes, investing, passive income, and more. Learning the concepts in this book transformed my life, and I know it will do the same for others.
Then, there’s my mentorship program, where I teach a digital class called The Luxury Masterclass. This program walks beauty pros through exactly what it takes to increase their income while working fewer hours behind the chair. 2025 marks 17 years of licensed artistry for me with 4 years being a licensed beauty educator; being able to pour back into the industry is something I don’t take lightly. I remember what it felt like to be hungry for knowledge but not have access to the right guidance. That’s why I created everything I offer—to make an impact, help others elevate, and use my gifts to add real value.
For me, it’s never just about making money—it’s about building wealth, creating freedom, and making a difference.
Are there any books, videos or other content that you feel have meaningfully impacted your thinking?
Yes, yes, and YES! Lol, I’m a personal development junkie—I truly believe that growth is a lifelong journey, and I’m always looking for ways to expand my mindset and be the best version of myself.
If I had to narrow it down, my top five books that have profoundly shaped my entrepreneurial thinking and philosophy are:
• Atomic Habits by James Clear – A game-changer when it comes to understanding the power of small, consistent actions. It taught me that success isn’t about making massive leaps overnight but about mastering the tiny habits that create exponential results over time.
• The Mountain Is You by Brianna Wiest – This book helped me recognize and overcome self-sabotage. It’s all about breaking through internal barriers and becoming the highest version of yourself.
• Think and Grow Rich: A Black Choice by Dr. Dennis Kimbro – This book dives into the mindset of wealth-building, specifically through the lens of Black excellence and perseverance. It reinforced the idea that wealth starts in the mind before it manifests in reality.
• The 10X Rule by Grant Cardone – If there’s one book that will shake you out of playing small, it’s this one. It’s all about taking MASSIVE action and refusing to settle for average results.
• The Bible – The OG of all books, in my opinion. I love that “Bible” stands for Basic Instructions Before Leaving Earth because so many of the success principles I’ve read about—mindset shifts, discipline, faith, perseverance—are deeply rooted in biblical wisdom.
Honestly, these books aren’t just recommendations; they’re non-negotiables for anyone who wants to live an extraordinary life, break free from limitations, and experience true freedom.
