We were lucky to catch up with Edith Greenwood recently and have shared our conversation below.
Edith , appreciate you joining us today. Let’s kick things off with talking about how you serve the underserved, because in our view this is one of the most important things the small business community does for society – by serving those who the giant corporations ignore, small business helps create a more inclusive and just world for all of us.
The Conception Studio photo, video, streaming, and digital marketing helps serve underserved communities and youth groups, through:
1. Tailored Programs and Services: that include educational workshops in photography, videography, hands on vocational training in a professional studio, one-on-one mentorship for students seeking skill sets in digital media and the communications field.
2. Partnerships with Local Organizations: Currently, The Conception Studio partners with local Christian faith based nonprofits Man Up International, Christian Business Women’s Network, Shiloh Christian Academy, Queen Academy, and Kids2Leaders to provide training opportunities and to help youth break free of failure and rejection. TCS seeks to promote growth by stimulating the youth mind to think beyond the walls around them. Our most recent community engagements have been group tours on Georgia Tech Institute campus, a mother daughter tea party, one on one mentorship training with students interested in the film industry and script writing. The projects TCS has worked on with our partnerships from this past summer to now has been rewarding to see this generation of youth take on responsibility, accountability, to be impactful in their local schools, to see a positive transformation individually in the students, and it’s been a pleasant experience building teaching relationships as TCS engage with the youth.
3. Community Engagement: Investing time and resources in underserved communities prompts the skills and values imparted hopefully leading to a ripple effect in peer to peer growth. The Conception Studio seeks to help youth extend beyond individual interactions, contributing to a brighter future and becoming a leader in the community.

Edith , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?

So how did I cross paths with photograph, and video? Good Question! My background aligns in media development, CIS, and education. All three tie together for a dynamic cross of website design, course development through the use of photography, video, and other multimedia tools. My love for these 3 gifts intertwine into a perfected vision to see through the camera lens a clear vision for any event, content shoot, special occasion, or project.
At TCS we offer professional photography, videography, streaming services, web design, and digital marketing to showcase the individual or company brand. Our team is composed of a brand manager, digital strategist, social media manager, content creators, and a media producer. We even have a publishing consultant on staff for those looking to create content to publish books. The Conception Studio is enthusiastic about creating engaging and impactful marketing experiences for our clients and partnerships.

Any resources you can share with us that might be helpful to other creatives?
As an entrepreneur in the photography industry, finding the right resources is essential for growth and success. This includes seeking out educational materials, networking opportunities, and mentorship to enhance technical skills and business acumen. Additionally, leveraging online platforms, workshops, and community groups can provide valuable insights and inspiration, helping to navigate the evolving landscape of photography while fostering creativity and innovation in your work.
Honestly, early in my career I stirred away from networking opportunities and did not participate enough in mentorship programs to foster my growth. The two biggest resources I recommend in this creative journey is:
1. Networking – The power of networking lies in the ability to create valuable connections, opportunities, and resources that can significantly impact personal and professional growth.
Networking opens doors to job opportunities, collaborations on projects
Many positions are filled through referrals and personal connections
Knowledge sharing
Support system
Increased visibility
Diverse perspective to broaden your horizons
2. Mentee to Mentorship
The power of pairing yourself as a mentee to learn from an experienced mentor will foster early growth, skill development, and tips not learned from a textbook.
Setting achievable realistic clear goals and objectives to enhance your portfolio and career objectives
**Feedback and Critique**: this is a golden resource I definitely wish I grasp earlier in my career journey. Constructive feedback is a key component of mentorship, reviewing your work, offering insights for business processes, reviewing client onboarding setup and communications, and encouragement to push your creative boundaries.
**Evaluation and Reflection**: Reflection can lead to adjustments in focus or methods to enhance the effectiveness of your business and creative journey.
By participating in a supportive environment, networking and mentorship in creative industries help nurture talent and professional creativity.

Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
The Conception Studio vision to help others plays a pivotal role in shaping our creative journey in several ways:
1. Purposeful Storytelling: Our desire to help others inspires us to capture stories that resonate with their experiences. Whether it’s through photography that highlights individual journeys, building brand projects, or working with organizations that promote growth in underserved communities, our work becomes a powerful tool for advocacy and awareness.
2. Empathy and Connection: Connection with our partnerships helps us connect on a personal level. By understanding their stories and struggles, TCS can create more authentic and impactful visuals that reflect their true essence.
3. Community Engagement: TCS commitment to helping others leads us to engage with local communities, collaborating on projects that uplift and support those in need. This not only enriches our portfolio but also strengthens The Conception Studio ties within the community.
As the founder of The Conception Studio my personal vision to help others not only fuels my passion for photography, videography, design, and marketing but also transforms it into a meaningful journey that creates impact, fosters connection, and promotes understanding through visual storytelling.
