We were lucky to catch up with Edilia Rossette recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Edilia thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Naming anything – including a business – is so hard. Right? What’s the story behind how you came up with the name of your brand?
as I mentioned before I am a Mexican, living in the United States, when I decide the name of my business I wanted it to be something that reminded me of my country Cachito de cielo, that is Mexico for me; A piece of heaven through handmade pieces by Mexican artisans
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My name is Edilia Rossette, Mexican, born in a Mayan town called Palenque Chiapas. Chiapas is a magical place, not only for its history, its Mayan vestiges, and its exuberant vegetation but also for its beautiful textiles, these are been part of my life! I still remember those beautiful moments like going out to the park and seeing women everywhere wearing their beautiful “Chol” dress (traditional dress), or those embroidery courses I had in high school, to continue preserving our culture, in short, the best memories of my childhood will undoubtedly be those who lived there.
And well, the years passed, I met the love of my life, and due to the fate of his work we moved to Houston Texas a few years ago, arriving in a country foreign to mine has been one of the most difficult things for me, since leaving my family, friends, professional life, it was not easy, the adaptation process was hard for me! But today I can tell you that I am super adapted and happy doing what I love.
As I mentioned at the beginning of my story, living among textiles, embroidery, and stitches led me to bring just that in my suitcase! Handmade Mexican clothing, when I wore it I felt that I was wearing a little piece of my Mexico, and right there begins this dream that I call Cachito de Cielo, a Mexican brand that combines the avant-garde and traditional creating handmade pieces, by Mexican artisans, with a contemporary twist.
Have you ever had to pivot?
Definitely, as the owner of your own business, the road is not easy, but it is not impossible either, the pandemic paralyzed many and made others take action, in my case it was the second, I think when we enter thru a crisis as an Entrepreneur, you become more creative, and you get that potential, which in many times we doubt we have.
I was wondering “now what am I going to do?” What would happen to my business? So I had to work and decided to take those courses that, due to time, one sometimes leaves behind, I get certified as an Image Consultant, I also decide to take some fashion courses, and finally, I plan a new collection which we launched in 2022 being a success!
Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
Definitely discipline and perseverance. As well as knowing my customers and giving them that trust and honesty through a quality product.
