We were lucky to catch up with Edie Waters recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Edie thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Looking back, do you think you started your business at the right time? Do you wish you had started sooner or later
As I reflect on going back in time, I realize that amazing opportunity is a all around us,, We just have to be ready to accept the challenge.
I started my real estate business after years of being deeply involved in the community, raising our boys, and supporting my husband’s career. During that time, I had already built a strong network and had a deep understanding of the local market in the Kansas CIty Metro.. That foundation gave me the confidence and the connections to hit the ground running.
Had I started earlier, I might not have had the same clarity or life experience to bring to the table. My priorities were different then, and I’m grateful I was able to focus on my family during those early years. At the time I did not realize that starting earlier could’ve meant missing out on building a solid reputation in a growing market and mentoring the amazing Realtor agents that I’ve had the privilege to lead. Today, EWN has grown to 46 incredible members, creating ripple effects of impact and empowerment across six states.
The key for me was I wanted to build something with purpose and passion,to leave a legacy. The opportunity came at a time when I was ready to give it my all. Your never to young or to old to start your business. Seize the day!

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
Hi, I’m Edie Waters — a longtime Kansas City girl, proud mom, wife, and Realtor who’s been helping people buy, sell, and build their dreams for years. Real estate isn’t just what I do, it’s truly part of who I am.
I got into this business after spending years raising our boys and being really involved in our community. Once they were grown, I felt this pull to start something of my own — and real estate just felt like a natural fit. I already knew the neighborhoods, the people, and what makes this area so special. I took a leap, and honestly, I’ve never looked back.
My team helps people all over the Kansas City Metro buy and sell homes. Our network brand, with the same dedication has extended into 7 states. We work hard to make sure every step of the process feels less overwhelming and a whole lot more personal. We’re not about pushy sales tactics — we’re about building relationships and being a trusted guide through big life changes. Today after being in business 30 years, we have so many repeat clients, their children and friends.
What makes us different? I’d say it’s our heart. We care deeply about our clients and our agents. I’ve had the joy of mentoring some incredible Realtors over the years, and helping them grow into strong, confident professionals is something I’m really proud of.
At the end of the day, I want people to know that when they work with us, they’re not just another transaction. We’re in this with you — to support you, cheer you on, and make sure you feel good about every decision along the way.
If you’re looking for a Realtor who’s got experience, knows the area inside and out, and genuinely cares about people — I’d love to connect.

Have any books or other resources had a big impact on you?
My career was on autopilot until I read a book called The Road Less Stupid by Keith J. Cunningham. That book was a turning point — it made me realize there was so much more I could be doing for my clients, my Realtors, and my business.
The biggest change I made was incorporating daily “think tank time.” For my business, it became as essential as the air I breathe or the food I eat — a non-negotiable part of my day.
Each morning, I start with my think tank journal, a quiet space, and a cup of coffee. I sit still and simply think — about life, my family, and my business. I let my mind and body speak to me without distraction. Some mornings, the thoughts bring a quiet smile. Other days, powerful ideas pour out, and I find myself writing like crazy, capturing everything.
After 15 to 30 minutes, I stop. I pick one idea to focus on for the day — and that sets the tone. I begin my day with purpose, clarity, and intention. That simple habit has transformed the way I lead, live, and show up in the world.

Can you tell us the story behind how you met your business partner?
As my business grew, I realized I needed a CEO. The real estate industry — and the world — was changing rapidly, creating new challenges and incredible opportunities. I knew the path ahead was one I couldn’t, and shouldn’t, walk alone.
During my think tank time, I began outlining exactly what this next step would look like. I wrote down the qualities I needed, the responsibilities they would take on, and the steps I’d follow to find the right person. After months of searching and several rounds of interviews — including one that ended in a tough lesson and a failed attempt — I found myself back at square one.
Then one day, during a weekly meeting, it hit me. The person I had been searching for had been in front of me the whole time. My coach — the same person who had helped me grow and refine my business for the past eight years — was the answer.
This was such a pivotal decision that I flew to Colorado to meet in person. We sat across the table, ready to talk, and without hesitation, we both reached out our right hands at the same moment. I said, “I need you to become me,” and at that exact moment, I heard her say, “I need to become you.”
Nearly two years later, our adventure continues. Together, we show up every day with purpose and passion, ready to face whatever comes next — and seize every opportunity along the way.
