We recently connected with Edgar Trevizo and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Edgar, thanks for joining us today. Are you happier as a business owner? Do you sometimes think about what it would be like to just have a regular job?
Im certainly proud that I have made the choice to start this photography business. It has not been necessarily easy but I enjoy the pressure of it all. Especially when I receive that satisfaction that I did a good job when I finally let my customers see the final product. Every now and then I do think to myself if I could make a living solely on just taking images. However I push myself back as I am still trying to figure out what is I’m trying to do and struggle believing in myself. The last time I was thinking of basing my career on my photography business is when I decided to take some rose inspired photos for Valentine’s Day. Valentine’s Day was approaching soon and I thought what better way to get my audience engaged then to do some photo shoot involving the holiday. I had about a week and thought it would be cool to do this milky bath and rose moment. I asked friends of mine if I could use their bath tub and when I got the green flag I took the time to set everything up. Despite me struggling and losing my patience for about two hours taking images of myself I somehow made it work. Eventually my friend Juan made it home by the time I finished and decided to take images of him as well. By the time we both went over them and edit some photos and videos. I somehow found myself in full work mode and just constantly making sure everything was just right. Juan even mentioned to me how he really saw creativity in the work that I do. In those moments I was with him I thought nothing more than to make this my regular job. Juan is a creative himself so his work ethic’s when he makes time to create videos for tiktok has been so inspiring to me.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
For those who don’t know me in a personal level. My name is Edgar Trevizo, but everyone calls me E.T. my initials. I got the nickname back in middle school from my fifth grade teacher Mr. Granger. Since then I’m no longer considered human but an alien allegedly. That was a joke which I’m also bad at making.
I started my photographic journey back last year around the same time I’m typing this now which is so crazy to think about and actually just gave me a pinch me moment as thinking about it. I’ve been doing art since I was in middle school and have progressed so much from simply drawing images in a piece of paper to actually letting the images I capture be the work of art itself. I use to think being a perfectionist was always a bad thing, but I’ve come to learn that such quality has made me put my best of efforts when I’m in the process of taking photos. I make sure the images I take accurately depicts the focus of what my customers wants whether that is family photos, graduations, portraits, etc. I want to make them remember those moments in time.
I still have not been able to get quite there yet, but I’m hoping my business can shine light to unheard voices and stories. I’ve used art and photography to let out how I really felt about some issues I have been and still currently facing. I want to be the reason someone goes out to seek help over their mental health or to inspire others to better work on themselves.

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect as a creative is the engagement you have around everything is different. What I mean by this is that as creative everything I do is not done the same as it would with someone who isn’t as creative. There is an advantage to seeing things in a different point of view. This is very visible when it comes to working especially when trying to get different camera angles, adjusting weird color settings, changing the lighting, creating different props, the list can go on.

Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
The one advice I would give to those who want more social media engagement is be yourself. Honesty and reliability is so important when wanting to succeed with social media. I don’t have the strongest relationship with social media, but it has definitely helped me progress further to where I am at today because of it.
