We recently connected with Edgar Rider and have shared our conversation below.
Edgar, appreciate you joining us today. Can you tell us about a time that your work has been misunderstood? Why do you think it happened and did any interesting insights emerge from the experience?
Misunderstaood Projects In The Creative Paradox
It seems like most of my projects have been somewhat misunderstood and the basic need to be creative has always felt like explaining it to others have always been extremely challenging.
I write and perform under two names Edgar Rider and Bob Eager
Being a Bob and a Edgar has unintended consequences! Why two personas? Both sides express one half a need and the other one completes it.
This causes confusion at times. The Bob side is more grandiose and a shameless opportunist. You might say the more abstract poetic side. If I am writing about strange concepts or under the surface subject matter this Bob side raises his hand.
The Edgar side is more of a straight forward storyteller telling people whats happening a street journalist explaining the situation. There are so many times I had to relinquish control and trust in the experience and the Edgar side always tells this type of story.
I must say confusion is what I love because it causes more conversation.
Why go by two names Bob and Edgar? Who are you really?
Are you a crazy person off the reservation?
No it is just fulfiiling both creative needs. I have used rehearsal theatrical spaces to practice material before it is performed before an audience which be a little hard to explain it is simply the process of visualization.
The best way to explain it is to say many creative people live in a paradox two sides that don’t entirely make sense but to themselves it is the only way to express both sides.
This is the constant battle between both sides of personal expression.
Recently, I took a balloon ride with Mandy it was symbolic of taking a chance, trusting the experience and relinquishing control just like in many of my projects.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
The book I wrote Go Bare Maximum was about living life with a specific purpose, The title refers to living a bare minimum lifestyle to achieve maximum creative potential. Some seeing me from the outside thought that I had lost my mind decided to be a homeless guy. It wasn’t like that my roommate and I lived very well we just saved money by living in the living room of a hypochondriac.
The book 5990 is a family gathering book explaining it from more of an adult perspective
It is about a former statesman grandfather helping raise three teenagers in the 80’s
Both of these books are about being in a situation where I had little control and had to navigate through the situations for self discovery.
Transcending the FIctional Burnout were stories based on real life experiences set in fictional genres such as Action adventure, Science Fiction, Horror, and Speculative Fiction among other genres.
Even when I started writing books under the pen name Bob Eager people werent sure what this was.Flipside of The Familiar is about exploring unusual topics. The character gives strange speeches and bizarre step by step guide examples.
Darskide Relapsing is a personal development parody book helping people control their inner wicked nature.
This side of myself was exploring under the surface subject matter. Topics I would never talk about as myself. The character became a diabolical Tony Robbins type.
It was a way to express abstract creativity
The character sort of evolved into the ringmaster of an open unmic called Tunnel Performance Society.
He would MC musicians, poets, dancers and other creative types expressing themselves in their own way.
I have used rehearsal theatrical spaces to practice material before it is performed before an audience.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
The goal or mission is to write and talk about everyday life experiences and find connections with others. Every experience matters and there is always subject matter it is never ending. Each experience we learn from the good, the bad and the very ugly. There are other projects under Bob Eager name that are about showcasing passionate not often talked about topics. The possibilities are endless no way to run out of topics.

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being a creative is the narrative legacy it generates. It never gets old, There is always a new direction to talk about. With creative projects it always seems like people say tell me more not tell me something else. It also creates a rich rewarding life one invested in action and experience not acquiring things.
