Edgar, appreciate you joining us today. How did you learn to do what you do? Knowing what you know now, what could you have done to speed up your learning process? What skills do you think were most essential? What obstacles stood in the way of learning more?
Discovering my knack for drawing was an early revelation in my life. However, it wasn’t until 2020 that I stumbled upon another hidden talent of mine: crafting detailed designs on strawberries. I vividly remember the day when I decided to give it a shot, and to my surprise, the results were met with admiration when I shared them online. This newfound passion required two fundamental skills: patience and meticulous attention to detail. Initially, I faced a significant obstacle – time. It would take me up to four hours to complete a single order, as I would incessantly overthink, make adjustments, and redo my work multiple times. Scaling up seemed impossible. Nevertheless, with time, practice, and growing confidence, I learned to work more efficiently. Soon, I expanded my menu to include cakesicles and cakepops. Now, I can complete over 200 treats in a single night.

In retrospect, one invaluable resource I wish I had known about earlier in my creative journey is the concept of buying in bulk and where to source materials efficiently. This knowledge would have significantly optimized my creative process and potentially saved both time and money.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The most rewarding aspect of being an artist or creative is the genuine sense of fulfillment that comes with it. Firstly, hearing all the positive feedback from customers is incredibly gratifying. Secondly, the trust that customers place in me for their special occasions, allowing me creative freedom, is both an honor and a privilege. Lastly, being able to express my creativity through my job is the ultimate reward. It transforms my passion into a meaningful livelihood, allowing me to bring my artistic ideas to life while making others happy in the process.
