We recently connected with Edgar Gonzalez and have shared our conversation below.
Edgar, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Any advice for creating a more inclusive workplace?
Being my wife and I immigrants, we have seen and valued the opportunities this country has opened to us, we have also experienced the difficulties to fit in a culture you were not raised.
In our SPA we have placed a lot of emphasis on giving every employee an opportunity to do their best, we encourage them to learn the language (English) and allow them to do an amazing job to our customers while they bring different perspectives and offer our customers an exceptional service.
We are very grateful to our customers for being so kind and comprehensive in some cases of language barriers.
In our SPA we have First generation American, Indian, Kurdish and Mexican employees, it is very interesting to see them all interact and share their cultural and personal experience and to see them thrive making customers feel and look amazing.
Edgar, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Looking for the right investment was complex activity, there were a lot of things we dint know we didn’t know… but We were sure we wanted a business we would enjoy doing, that would be profitable, and that would make us feel proud.
After many months of research, we decided to go with this SPA, thinking that the community would really love the franchise we were going to purchase, the looks and appeal from the locations we visited were just gorgeous and felt very welcoming.
My wife is a RN and had done a career change to beauty (in Mexico), so having the SPA, and getting her licensed in Ohio was the next step.
She is now managing the SPA, she is also one of the estheticians’ providing services, this has been a learning experience for us all, where the most important things have been focusing on providing customers an amazing experience, and an outstanding service, and creating a work environment that our employees value and feel greatly appreciated by us as well as by our customers.
What’s been the best source of new clients for you?
Google has been by far the best marketing tool, asking for customer reviews and paying attention to any concerns from customers taking in any feedback we receive to help our team improve and delight the next customer.
Marketing cost has been quite higher than what we originally expected, and finding the right approach has been a trial and error, I think we haven’t really discovered the “holy grail” of marketing for our industry, there might not be one…
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
Having the owner be present at the SPA, as well as a constant reminder to the employees to always do an amazing service and make the customers feel special and help them reach their beauty goals.
We value quality over quantity, we firmly believe that doing the right thing for every customer will create customer loyalty and repeat business.
