We recently connected with Edgar Cruz Velez and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Edgar thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. What do you think matters most in terms of achieving success?
I believe communication and determination are essential to be successful. I strive to communicate and pay attention to those around me. When communication is present, trust and respect follow. I have the determination to walk with purpose and align myself to my vision with excellence.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I’m a full-time Videographer/Photographer/Drone Pilot in the state of Florida. It all started in 2015 when my late Pastor, Tony Mendez, saw my potential and gave me an opportunity as the Media Director of our church. That same year, my wife gave me my first camera as a Christmas gift and I enrolled and graduated from a Film Program taught by Hechos Productions. From there, I launched my company and have worked with some amazing people. Edgar Junior Media LLC offers all types of Videography and Photography such as promotional videos for different companies, headshots, weddings, engagements, maternity, real estate, drone footage and much more. I strive to give the best quality and best service to our clients. It’s about capturing mood, expression and emotion through my lens and bringing it to life with a unique style.
We’d love to hear the story of how you turned a side-hustle into a something much bigger.
I was a supervisor at a retail store Monday-Friday and some weekends. In addition, I ran my business as a side hustle for a while, which was tough. I would get home and be so tired that it was hard to find the motivation to work for my business. However, I remember telling myself “if you don’t invest time in it, you will be stuck in that 9-5 cycle”. I worked hard but like a lot of people the fear of failure pushed me back from going full time in my company. After a few years in my 9-5 job, a restructure was done and my position, along with others, was eliminated. I believe this was God opening a door for an opportunity to go full-time in my business and that’s what I did. It wasn’t easy but I able to work full-time in my business and dedicate my time to reach my company’s potential. I made a lot of mistakes along the way, running a business is not easy and there’s a lot that comes with it. However, I was able to learn from people that have been doing this longer than I have and now I get to help other talented individuals. A key milestone for me was in that moment when I lost my position in my job and that pushed me to go full-time in my company.
What’s been the best source of new clients for you?
After COVID, social media became a major source, especially that a lot more traffic was coming in.
