We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Edgar Alejandro. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Edgar below.
Edgar, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. What’s been the most meaningful project you’ve worked on?
Last year, our small team from Las Vegas made a truly gripping Indie Film. But don’t take my word for it, watch our 40 Second Trailer linked at the bottom of this article:
As the writer and director of this story, I’m pleased to announce that our Film won “Best LGBTQ Film” At the Las Vegas International Film & Screenwriting Festival as well as “Best Director” at the Silver State Film Festival. The film’s lead actors are both diverse females as well!
But this film is so much beyond the awards. In Ember’s Edge, two women on an adventurous weekend camping trip set out to explore the legend of the treasure in Ember’s Edge. Their relationship is put to the test when they encounter a mysterious stranger…
Ember’s Edge is my debut Feature Film and is set to release later in 2023 or early in 2024.
Edgar, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
As the Co-Founder of Rising Again Productions LLC, our mission has always been to shed light on diversity in a unique manner. From our very first feature film, we’ve been intent on representing groups of people that are rarely shown in mainstream Hollywood.
In Ember’s Edge, both female leads are latina and a part of the LGBT community. But the story and events that transpire don’t result because of who they are. Their background is the backdrop of the story.
As Indie Filmmakers, we’ve always had to be resourceful. Ember’s Edge is entirely funded by us [with no loans taken out], so we had to create this compelling story with things we’ve had available to us.
Both Adriel and I [Adriel is the other Co-Founder of Rising Again Productions] had a theater background. This film only has three actors during the entire runtime, so we leaned on our acting background to bring out the most compelling performances from these three characters.
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
When it comes to making movies, less is more.
This is especially true when you’re starting out. Usually, your first idea can be too ambitious, too expensive. Starting with a short film is ideal, with limited characters and sets. Setting parameters and keeping it simple usually brings out the best creativity [and the best lessons].
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
The first day of filming in the mountains, we forgot a key part of wardrobe. Keep in mind, the journey from our Airbnb where we kept all of our props and costumes to our set was 2 hours away. Those that have been on set before know that scheduling and pre-production is key to a successful filming… and we were off to a bad start. At the end of the day, the resilience came from the entire cast and crew. We were extraordinarily blessed to have such a cohesive team willing to push harder the entire day to make up for lost time.
