We recently connected with Eden Beck and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Eden thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Learning the craft is often a unique journey from every creative – we’d love to hear about your journey and if knowing what you know now, you would have done anything differently to speed up the learning process.
I’ve always had a love for acting, but when I began studying with Anthony Mendel’ I really fell in love with the craft.
The technique requires you to extensively get to know yourself; the facets that make you you, what drives you and emotionally charged you, so that you can play all different types of roles, characters, emotions, and personalities.
I love that this technique allows me to better myself while simultaneously improve my acting.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Growing up in Los Angeles, I was surrounded by the entertainment industry.
I had dabbled in commercials as a child, thanks to my brother who was able to get me signed with his agent. While he saw much success, I did not.
My mom made me pick between gymnastics and acting, and since I was never booking I went with gymnastics.
Throughout the years I had switched from gymnastics to dance, always wanting to go back to acting at some point. The switch happened when I signed with a dance agent and was going on auditions for things like Mc Donald’s where some acting was required. I convinced my parents to put me in acting class, and from there, dance was history.
I have been pursuing acting since my senior year of high school and despite college, covid, and the strikes I’ve done my best to stick with it full force.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
I love that my job is to learn about people.
Every day is work for me, as I get to observe peoples’ mannerisms, personality traits, actions, and intentions, which allows me to understand how and why people are the way that they are and how they got there.
This is not only fascinating to me, but it has also given me a sense of immense empathy I’ve never experienced before.
Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
I’ve had to pivot many times within the industry, being open to new types of entertainment when traditional routes were not an option for me.
With covid and now the strikes, I’ve really learned to appreciate any type of work that comes my way. Whether it be modeling, commercials, music videos, or very low budget projects, I am open to it all!
I learn something from every project I do and I know I they take me in the direction I want to go for a prosperous acting career.
