We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Eddie Torres. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Eddie below.
Alright, Eddie thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Do you think folks should manage their own social media or hire a professional? What do you do?
I have always manage my own social media handles however I have consulted a social media specialist for small business. I felt because of the industry I’m in I needed to have an understanding how to get my services in front of companies or people who seek my type of services. The results of doing so was greater than I expected. My profile increased from 3 thousand followers to over 16 thousand in a very short time. It also put me in front business opportunities which was my goal. Even in my industry it helps very much to invest a little in your social media and keep it current as it’s still a place where business decision makers go to for a look at your type and quality of work.
Eddie, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My name is Eddie Torres and I am an award winning film composer, music producer, and musician who has been in the industry for over 30 years. My passion for music all started in my hometown of Chicago Illinois when my father purchased me a $26 guitar at the age of 9. From that moment on, I wanted to immerse myself in all things music whether it be playing at churches, corporate events, weddings, and more! By my teenage years, I knew that this was the path I was meant to follow and I made sure to take every opportunity I could to become better. By 2002, I had built my first-ever recording studio, Rushing Wind Productions. I am now located in the Chicagoland Suburbs in my new studio which has been the home to hundreds of projects ranging from films like Nawal the Jewel, and TV shows like, Supernanny, Long Lost Family and Murder to Hire. My passion has allowed me the opportunity to work with a wide variety of musicians and artists from across the globe and my love for my craft continues to grow with every project I work on.
I always ensure that my faith, work ethic, and musical imagination are always at the core of my work. In addition to that, I find that building true connections with my clients is truly the recipe to success. Without proper communication there is no understanding, and for the work I do, I always want to make sure we are always on the same page.
It is easy to say how proud I am of all the projects and work I have done throughout my years. But I would have to say that I am most proud of my resilience and dedication to my craft. My love for music wouldn’t have been possible if it weren’t for my father who sadly passed in 2021. Even through facing one of the most difficult times of my life, I knew that I had to keep pushing forward and I know that my father wouldn’t have wanted it any other way. This industry can test you, and so can life, but with my faith and my love for music, I know that I am in the right place.
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
There are a multitude of stories that have contributed to my resilience in this industry, but one that hits home was losing my father, Manuel, in 2021.
Before receiving the news that my father in Puerto Rico had to be rushed to a hospital, I was in the middle of finishing a score for the film Life Ain’t Like the Movies. I received the call and flew straight to Puerto Rico to tend to my father and mother. This was all during the height of COVID, and all I wanted to do was to see my father but due to the pandemic, my opportunity to see him was limited. While facing the struggle of this unexpected circumstance, something in me knew I had to continue working and finalizing the score for the film. The deadline was coming up and I would spend my days at the hospital and my nights working with the limited resources I had.
It was not much longer that I had lost my father. Six months after, I had gone on to win Best Original Score for Life Ain’t Like the Movies, a win that I did not expect. I dedicated that award to my father. If it wasn’t for him, my passion for music wouldn’t be where it is today. Though this being one of the hardest times of my life, it made me stronger and even more passionate for the work I do.
What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
The most effective strategy for me has been saying yes! If there is anything I have learned in this business it is knowing when there is opportunity. Once given that opportunity, you are now able to really show your skill and provide your clients with quality work. Throughout my years I have built so many relationships because I said yes to the opportunities that presented themselves. Once I am able to prove my ability and work ethic, clients remember that and the word will spread in your favor. So, don’t be afraid to show your interest, and once you got your foot in the door, prove your worth and the rest will follow.
