Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Eddie Rider. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Eddie, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. What do you think matters most in terms of achieving success?
What do you think it takes to be successful? Do you have any stories or anecdotes that illustrate your point or how you developed your view?
I believe that having a passion and strong love for your industry will always make you successful in your industry. Making money is great, but waking up everyday loving what you do and being excited about what you do is the measure of true success.
I often listen to learn and definitely learn from other challenges that industry people have had or may currently have. In the Interior Design industry, it is so much about offering great customer service along with super design. I have repeat clients and projects along with the client’s grown children because of follow up and good customer service. Adding project management has been a huge help as listening to clients or prospects, this is what they were telling me they needed and were missing on their projects.
Eddie, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I offer turn-key interior design services along with project management help. I have been in the industry for over 25 years and have learned by listening to what the prospects want. I went to Design School in Long Beach CA, which was quite a distance (another world) from Apex, NC. I spoke a little funny and they had to “listen to me to understand me” but I was great at what I did and loved this schooling.
My Art and Vocational (DECA) teachers are the ones that suggested I look into the Industry and there has been no looking back.
I love to share what I know and give advice whenever asked. I am fortunate to travel and get many ideas to incorporate into my work.
Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
Yes, I had to start offering more project management services as I saw this was something that I could help the project move along and make the clients very happy. I have always stayed in the Design Industry but have had to supplement my income by taking on part time apartment leasing work to help out financially. I have always thought that this was a major asset to me as I learned so much and took away for (should be far) more than I gave.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
Social Media seems to be ongoing. I am building my audience by posting multiple times a week and offering truth and what actually happens in my business daily lift. I try to keep thing realistic and funny. I love technology and use what I can, but I have to be honest and admit that much of it is slightly complicated.
I go to a lecture at every Show/Market and learn as much as I can. Years ago the industry talked about how important social media was, and boy were they right.
I have since started a Podcast, Designers Lane, where I have other vendors and we discuss the ups and downs and how to offer clients a fun and exciting process. This is always quite interesting and often funny.
