Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Eddie Hines. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Eddie thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. We’d love to hear how you think where to draw the line in terms of asking friends and family to support your business – what’s okay and what’s over the line?
I find it difficult to ask friends and family to support your business in the same tone as Jesus Christ when he returned to his hometown. He had the ability to be great, but the ones he grew up with I’m didn’t see his potential and didn’t buy in. I think once i take off financially then you get the interests of your friends and family but more for their taking, not contributing. I once had my own business in fixing computers, yet the only people who were willing to use my services were strangers which made me feel sad and disappointed. I thought if my own people wont support me, what chance did i have out there? Turned out i was very successful.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
So i have been in the tech world since about 10 years old, first being an apprentice with my father then branching out on my own after completing both high school and college. i will told had the gift to understand technology quickly and diagnose problems people had with it. it eventually led me to work in the tech industry under different lines of businesses, then branching off on my own to start my own company which lasted for 6 years. After my business revenue subsided i decided to go into corporate America sharing my talents with various businesses until i got the itch to be a content creator. with that new desire, i now post to social media streams my different experiences hoping that revenue follows me on the road to success. I was great with elevator speeches and catch phrases so that was my marketing secret to get people interested. Words like “We fix it right, at your site!” and “If you can’t get there, let HinesEdventures take you there!” are phrases that got many a people to recite unconsciously.
How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
In 2008 i was in a midst of a bitter divorce, and my now former wife sued me for half of the business, which she was successful at. In response, i shut down the business so there was no more income to make from it. It stopped her but it killed my way to earn a living. Thats when i decided to go into corporate America and take my talents to various companies, finally landing at Truist Securities which i have been for some time now.
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
Again, word of mouth and clever marketing. if you can get someone to recite your catch phrase to you, whatever you are selling they almost can’t help but buy into it!
