Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Eddie Gore. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Eddie, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today What do you think matters most in terms of achieving success?
When I was transitioning from high school to college in Nashville, I had met and became friends with a very talented musician who was performing in the same circles I was. We had become fast friends. As I was beginning my career in music he gave me some sage advice: “Eddie. you just gotta outlast them”! You don’t necessarily have to be better, just out last ’em! With my nose to the grindstone, months owning my own production company turned into years. I like to share with my new young artist the same advice that was shared with me from a wonderful mentor. “You just gotta out last ’em” and I know why! I look around and notice that many of the pianists and musicians that had more talent in their little pinky than I had in my whole body, well… they’re not here! And I still am! But, obviously, through the years I found my footing and excelled. I found that through staying humble, listening, asking questions, and practicing. I had a dream. I love to share this experience with my young clients! I like to share everything I know so that they can have as much information they can handle in order for them to make the best decisions for themselves on how they may choose to move forward in their own career. Now with my 35 years in production I have a lot to share and give back.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Pretty much form Nashville. I’m Catholic and studied classical piano growing up. I went to Belmont University to study Orchestration and Arranging. My first experience with a Protestant school and realized “They stole all the Music!” So much more popular music than I had ever heard!. I began arranging my own ideas. I joined a band. and eventually started my own band and wrote charts! Never rehearsing sit just had great charts as I got the gigs. Not releasing this was the beginning of my production career as wrote charts behind a lead vocalist and I cast the musicians for that specific event, I taught myself to program music on a computer and sync it with tape. I was lucky enough to be introduced to Steve Cropper and he hired me to come produce some demos for a new publishing company he began. I actually began working with him and song ideas. My forte really came out in my arrangement capabilities. I was hired away for a year by Kyle Lehning as his production assistant. He had just become president of Asylum Records and needed some assistance. This is where I got my chops with booking musicians, studios, engineers. I leaned union practices and Admin. Steve Cropper hired me back to build a studio in an old house h purchased right on Music Row. Now I became a studio builder! Once all wired and a new console turned on, it was time to learn to engineer. Being form Nashville and all my friends know me by my name, is why I kept the name simple, Eddie Gore Productions.
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
Early in my career I had a client refuse to pay me the remaining $12,000.00 on a project. (yes we can talk about how I corrected the from ever happen again) But I had to figure out how to keep the lights on immediately! I had arrangement skills, I owned a studio, and there were artist/writers. I invented and Tuesday Night Special. 3 songs, arranged and fully produced with a live band. Masters not Demos for the price of demos. (along Wirth red wine and chocolate) You could buy 1 song or all 3. This became extremely popular with some heavy duty writers wanting to bring in an artist to tie with their song. Super Success! Well, it all worked out in more ways than one! Keep going, don’t give up!

We’d love to hear the story of how you turned a side-hustle into a something much bigger.
My side hustle has always been performing for events. Constantly hiring and meeting new musicians outside of the studio. Good money in private events. Kept my chops up that way too!
