We were lucky to catch up with Eddie Garnett recently and have shared our conversation below.
Eddie , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Risk taking is something we’re really interested in and we’d love to hear the story of a risk you’ve taken.
The risk I took was quitting corporate America and joining the box truck industry. It was a big transition leaving from a job where I was making consistent revenue every week to chasing after a vision that I was not sure that it would work. By the grace of God I teamed up with my first Cousin Phillip Garnett who’s more like a brother to me. That made it easier to overcome all of the obstacles that were presented.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Hello my name is Eddie Garnett and I am the CEO and CO-Owner of Garnetts Big Box Trucking. 2020 is the year that God gave me my purpose in the transportation industry. The transportation industry was not apart of my vision but if it’s Gods will it shall be his way. Not only was Garnetts Big Box Trucking birthed, God also gave me the best partner/brother/cousin a person can have on there team. Phillip Garnett is my First cousin but he is more like my brother and he is also the co-owner and co-ceo of Garnetts Big Box Trucking. Growing up as a fatherless child on top of living through poverty I was not taught how to get ahead but I did gain a skill that I still use today and that’s how to make a way out of no way. If I had the opportunity to change my past I wouldn’t change a thing because I am the product of all of my trials and tribulations. Phillip and I both shared similar backgrounds and upbringing and we both knew that we did not want our kids to live through the poverty we went though. We went straight to the drawing board and made plans to have our trucking company up and running by January 2021 and of course by the grace of God our trucking company was up in running by January 2021. Being that me and Phillip both had the same last name and our last name was attached to nothing but violence and drugs. We knew right then that our business name had to have our last name in the title because it was our duty to clean up our name and put a new respect on the Garnetts. Garnetts Big Box Trucking is a transportation company that transports General Freight from point a to point b all over the United States. We also deliver freight with the number 1 online retailer in the world Amazon. Although We have not been around for a long time we managed to upscale our company from 1 truck to 3 truck In less than 1 year. That has to be that man above
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
A wise man once told me that to be successful in todays society you do not have to create nothing new you just have to find something that’s already working and add your twist to it. When God gave me the vision to join the trucking industry I started YouTubing others who were already in the trucking industry and I literally mocked what they were doing but put my own twist on it. I created a YouTube channel and showed everyone how to start a successful trucking company in under 12 minutes. I didn’t have any special edits to my video I just made sure it was authentic and made sure that it got straight to the point. That video has grown my following on YouTube to 18,900 plus subscribers and I have several videos that have thousands of views. My most watched video has over 250,000 views. Find your niche and be authentic. Don’t be talking in circles. Get straight to the topic and always be truthful. Your audience will adapt.
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
A lesson I had to unlearn is to just survive. Growing up in poverty teaches you how to survive but it didn’t teach me how to get ahead and live my best life. Me and Phillip both new that we want to live our best life and pave the way for our kids and the next generation. That meant that we had to change our mind set and understand that no matter what! we were going to do what it takes to get a successful trucking company
