We were lucky to catch up with Eddie G recently and have shared our conversation below.
Eddie, appreciate you joining us today. Are you able to earn a full-time living from your creative work? If so, can you walk us through your journey and how you made it happen?
Yes, I’ve been able to earn a full-time living from my creative work. Well, when I first started writing I was doing it as a hobby when I was working my 9-5 job in the IT field. I would give myself a page count on how many pages I would write a day when I got home from work. Sometimes I would meet that page count, and some days I wouldn’t. The most important thing to me was that I wrote every day, whether it was one page or ten pages I was writing every day. The more I wrote, the more I wanted to direct, so one day my friend asked me if I wanted to do the 48-Hour Film Project, and I agreed to do it. I wrote the script and he and I directed it together because that was my first time directing a film. We won our genre for our film and after my debut as a director, I was bitten by the director bug. So, from then on I started writing short films that I can direct to showcase my skills and talent with my writing and directing. In order for me to even be considered to be hired to write or direct a project for someone I had to continue to produce my own work to show that I’m qualified to make a quality project. Once my work and name were circulating around the film community I was asked to write and direct projects. I always pride myself on being able to write in any genre because I am a self-taught screenwriter I challenged myself to write different stories dealing with a wide variety of backgrounds. I know they say to write what you know, but I freed myself from the box and wrote things I didn’t have a clue about, but I educated myself by doing research on the topic that I was writing about to make sure I wasn’t doing the project a disservice. It was not like this from day one. I had to build up my creditability first so people could have confidence in my work and believe in me that I would deliver a quality product without wasting their time. I don’t think I would have sped up the process knowing what I know now. I needed to go on that journey of honing my skills to be able to deliver a quality product. Because at the end of the day I don’t want anything that’s not up to par with my name attached to it. I’m a firm believer that you always put your best foot forward in everything you do. The journey is the most important thing because you learn a lot about yourself while moving forward with your goals, and that’s paramount to becoming the best version of yourself in any aspect of your life.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I got into the industry by doing background work, I felt that was my way in to get an opportunity to get a job working on a set other than being background. Most people that do background are working towards being actors, me on the other hand wanted to see how a set was run. I didn’t care about having screen time as most people do. Once I got my chance to be a Production Assistant on set for free, yes, I worked for free as PA on multiple projects. I didn’t care about the money, I wasn’t doing it for the money. I was doing it to learn the business and to see how a professional set was run so I could apply that to my own one day. Filmmaking takes a lot of discipline, you must respect the craft and put in your ten thousand hours if you want to be great at protecting your craft to where you can make a profit from all of your hard work. I provide writing and directing services for people that are looking for a project to be written and/or someone that has a script that needs a director, or a crew to bring it to life. The problems I solve for my clients are making sure their story is good because if I don’t like the story or what you’re trying to do, I’m not going to take on the project. I care more about the subject matter, rather than the money. The money will always be there, so I rather put out good work instead of sub-par material. I believe that what sets me aside from everyone else because I have a passion for the art of the work, instead of the money and with that passion, you’re always going to get my honest assessment. I’m most proud of making people’s visions come to life and being able to see the elation on their faces knowing that I was able to bring their ideas to life. I want people to know that I will always give you my all and I will always be honest with you no matter what. I will treat your project like it’s my very own because at the end of the day my name is on it and I stand behind everything I put out.
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
My goal is to show people that are looking to get into this industry that it is possible, even if sometimes the odds are stacked against you. The advice I have is that anything worth having is not going to come easy, you’re gonna have to fight your way to the top, but also enjoy the moments along the way because that’s what makes the journey even sweeter.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding of being a creative is that I can bring things to life that can have a positive impact on someone’s life.

Instead of the title of my interview saying 3 Fifths Films can you change it to Eddie G Films? That is the new Film production name I’m currently using at the moment.
