We were lucky to catch up with Eddie Eaton recently and have shared our conversation below.
Eddie, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today When did you first know you wanted to pursue a creative/artistic path professionally?
Music always felt like home to me no matter what. Almost anything I did when I was younger I always had music playing, or was playing music. I had tried to dabble in a couple sports like soccer, lacrosse and baseball but nothing gave me the feeling that drums did. The moment I decided I wanted to be a drummer was in the beginning of 5th grade. I haven’t stopped since. Throughout high school I was asked “why don’t you play basketball? you’re 6’4”!” or “why don’t you play football?” It’s because it just isn’t for me.
Eddie, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My name is Eddie Eaton, I am 18 years old and just graduated high school. I started playing drums in about 3rd grade, but started using my resources in middle school (concert and jazz band) to carry it into high school (marching band, jazz, concert band). I achieved many great awards and personal accomplishments in school, learned a lot about myself, and know what i want to pursue for the rest of my life. I’m proud of my work that I’ve created, and how far I’ve come in such little time. There is still much more to go on this long journey but this is a checkpoint in it.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
One of the most rewarding parts of doing this is having people recognize me and tell me they enjoy my stuff. When playing shows you always get the “good job” or “you sound good” but I also really like the little conversations you can get into about gear and just the style of playing. Some of the people I idolize in the scene I’ve had these conversations with, and it makes my night most the time.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
I want to tour the US before 2024. I don’t mind which band does it. I don’t mind who I’m with. I want to play music every night. I want to experience and travel the country with my best friends. That not being the only thing driving my journey though, I also wish to sign to a label, play theaters, have people sing along to my songs and have a great time at my shows. I have a great time at my shows, and I strive to make sure every person has fun.
