Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Ed Miller. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Ed, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. We’d love to have you retell us the story behind how you came up with the idea for your business, I think our audience would really enjoy hearing the backstory.
I’ve worked as a trainer for 16 years. When I moved to the area in 2011, I worked at a large health club for 5 years. I reached my ceiling there as one of the top producers and began to plan opening my own business. This didn’t happen overnight. It took almost a full year to plan and build. I had built up enough clientele to where I finally felt comfortable going out on my own and opened the facility with my business partner in February of 2016.
Ed, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I have a degree in Exercise Science and have continued my education through higher certifications. I played baseball and football growing up and had always enjoyed training. I started in the industry in 2006 and fell in love with everything associated with strength and fitness. After college, I knew I wanted to grow as a professional and tried to soak up as much information as I could, while building a resume of actually training people. Our services that we offer are 1 on 1 coaching, small group coaching and athlete group coaching. We train clients from all walks of life. Not just athletes. They come to us wanting to be better versions of themselves, which we deliver. The individual goals might differ from client to client, but that’s where our specialization comes in. We treat every client as a individual and train them as such. Our attention to this detail is what sets us apart from others in this industry.
Let’s talk M&A – we’d love to hear your about your experience with buying businesses
I bought out my business partner in September of 2019. Becoming the sole owner has had its list of obstacles. You become the main guy. Everything depends on you. Production, decisions, changes etc. Luckily, I’ve had a lot of help throughout this process. My wife is a highly successful professional and has helped tremendously with the business process throughout the last 3 years.
Have you ever had to pivot?
We defiantly had to pivot with Covid in 2020. No one could’ve been prepared for that. So many things run through your head as a business owner throughout something like that. Will you survive it? Will clients come back? How will you build and generate revenue? Luckily we worked very hard and came out stronger on the other side. Our clients are extremely loyal and are our family. We work with the best people in the world.
