We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Ed Leshin a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Ed, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. We’re complete cheeseballs and so we love asking folks to share the most heartwarming moment from their career – do you have a touching moment you can share with us?
Years ago, I was forging my way through chiropractic college, and in my second to last trimester there, tragedy hit our family as my father passed away very suddenly. We were with him when it happened. The passing of a family member can affect us in various ways and is unique to each person and for me, I honestly don’t even know how I got through the last trimester in school but I did.
I went on to work for several years in the profession but something was always on my mind. I couldn’t put my finger on it but there was still a void or an empty feeling that I couldn’t describe.
Sorrow is like a thief of joy and I wondered why there was this part of me that just was searching for something- perhaps some answers?
I decided to step away from my holistic healing practice to pursue something else. Initially, it was just part-time but then I felt called to jump into it full-time.
Have you ever done anything that didn’t “make sense” but just felt called to do? This was one of those moments. Looking back, I think it was similar to when Michael Jordan left the Bulls to play baseball for a year. His dad had just passed and he needed something else. He needed to connect to something else and at the time he didn’t know why. Looking back, I think I needed this too!
I was working for a company that employed contractors to do business-to-business sales but also business-to-consumer or residential sales.
At first, I was doing b-b but then I was asked to move over to the residential office and help them out.
This is when I started to experience different things. I met a woman who had a picture on her wall of the last plane my dad spoke of before he passed. My dad was really into planes and had served in the Air Force. I started running into people who had family members who had been in the Air Force or who themselves had been in the Air Force. I was invited into one home and on the wall there was a picture of a man that was thin and looked like my dad when he was younger and a picture of a boy that looked exactly like my youngest son at that time. I remember asking if I could take a picture of the boy. I sent it to my wife at the time.
Things like this kept happening and I couldn’t help but feel like my dad was trying to communicate with me from the other side. It’s like he was sending me messages. In addition, the company that I was working with at the time had sales reward trips, and if we gained enough points we could go on nice trips all over the world. At this particular time, the trip we could win was for 7 days in Italy. I was born in Italy and my dad was in the Air Force at the time. He was stationed at Aviano AFB and I was born in the closest city, Vicenza. All these unexplained encounters were happening during the qualification period for this trip.
At the very end of the qualification period, I went into the office because it was the beginning of the week. On this particular day, I found out that I qualified for not only 1 ticket but 2. I was so excited that I called my wife to tell her. I was going to get to see my birthplace!! This would have never happened if I stayed in my holistic chiropractic business at that time.
I was driving out to an area where I could work that day just basking in the glory of winning this trip. I thought of my dad and how much I missed him but also about how many encounters I had had during the qualification for this trip. Somehow I felt he had a spiritual hand in this manifesting. Just then, I heard a song on the radio that reminded me of him because he liked that song. It was an old 50s song and the station I was listening to didn’t typically play songs that old.
At that moment, and I don’t know why, I looked out my driver’s door window and saw a cloud in the sky that had a figure or shape to it. It looked like a face or a side profile of a face. Cell phones weren’t as advanced as they are now, but my little flip phone still captured the picture. Again, I sent it to my wife and asked her what she saw. She said, “It looks like the face of a man”! I said, “Yes” and explained what had just happened.
I showed that picture to many people and asked them the same question.
All the responses said the same thing. I remember tears rolling down my face when I first saw that picture. I felt like Dad had been on this journey to win the trip to Italy and while driving out west on I90 in Chicago near Rockford, I realized that even though Dad’s body wasn’t with us anymore, his spirit was still around us. I went on to see my birthplace and this experience changed my life and led me to study more about consciousness, near-death experiences, energy healing, and our connection with our souls including my own.
What I thought was career-icide (sabotaging my career) turned into a big blessing that has come back full circle for me as I am now able to help others get past their own sorrows including the loss of loved ones, the loss of a relationship or even the sorrow of feeling like they have lost themselves on their life path by using Personal Energy Training.
.
Ed, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I am the founder and developer of Personal Energy Training.
I combined my experience from being a holistic chiropractor and acupuncturist into a modality that helps people release stressors and traumas without having to explain or talk about their traumatic story out loud.
Most people come to me when they experience a disconnection. We are all stressed by something these days. On the surface, It doesn’t matter how successful in business a person is or what a great family they have or even if they have a wonderful loving spouse- when they experience “the disconnection” their life can turn upside down. It can happen from the death of a loved one like in my case or for no particular reason at all. If they don’t know how to process it, they can sabotage their career, their marriage/relationship or their health. My clients have been people with relationship issues, work or career issue or health issues. I’ve worked with veterans, young adults and seniors. I’ve helped people who are in pain, famous people and mom’s and dad’s. The common theme is that most people come to me with a particular issue and wind up discovering that there is something else that is causing the disconnection and not the issue they thought it was.
What I provide is a way for people to go from “the disconnection” (meaning the stressors or negative emotions they feel) to re-aligning their body, mind and spirit back to it’s optimal mode of operation.
I’m proud of the fact that I don’t have to throw stones at other healing modalities or processes in order to promote this work. Each experience has meaning so it is pointless to claim one is better than the other. I simply let people experience it for themselves and make their own conclusions. I am also proud of the Non-Profit, The healthy Human Project that I founded in order to give back to those who want access to holistic health but may not have financial means to support that journey. https://thehealthyhumansproject.org/
I’d like people to know that there is a way back to themselves that can be explored but it’s their decision, not mine or that of anyone else. The only way to truly understand this work is to experience it. I offer live workshops every month in a group format where people have a chance to experience how Personal Energy Training can help them in their daily lives. I also teach people how to do this work for themselves so they are not dependent on me as I a big believer in self-empowering people.

Other than training/knowledge, what do you think is most helpful for succeeding in your field?
One thing I talk about quite often to other practitioners is that we can have all the training in the world but at the end of the day if we are listening to client trauma stories all day long we can be affected by that. In fact, practitioner burnout is a real thing and my mission is to help practitioners learn a process that protects them from the trauma transference and to help clients at the same time by not re-enforcing their brains memory of the traumatic events.
By implementing this process, I am energized by working with clients every day rather than traumatized by them.
Do you have any insights you can share related to maintaining high team morale?
I’m a big proponent on allowing autonomy but at the same time having healthy boundaries.
For example, if your business grows to a level where you have multiple team members and multiple roles, I’ve learned from being on both sides of the fence that it is important to honor the roles that each member has and to give them an opportunity to grow within those roles. Leaders want responsibility. However, collaboration is the key and having a balance of energies is also important.
I’ve been a part of organizations that do honor this and it’s exciting to work for them. I’ve also been a part of organizations that play favorites or let some team members who have dominant energy take over the business.
The key is balance, feedback and the willingness to work on oneself.
