We recently connected with Ebony Woods and have shared our conversation below.
Ebony, appreciate you joining us today. Let’s start with the story of your mission. What should we know?
The story behind my mission is simple. My life’s purpose is to help and aid other’s in their time of need. It took a lot of up’s and down for me to figure this out. I have dealt with a lot of health issues and overcoming them were not easy. While overcoming these difficulties times I was draw closer to the Lord and kept seeking an answer to what my life’s calling was. In my darkest hours I heard the Lords voice. He told me that he wanted me to help others. At this time I couldn’t help myself but I kept my faith and asked God daily for the strength and health to complete such task. It took some time however; the Lord did deliver and now I own my cleaning company.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My name is Ebony Woods I am a Virgo so it’s in my nature to be a perfectionist. My eye for details have helped my company to expand along the way. Sometimes it the smallest things and details that can be done to help complement your work. I once was told if you love what you do then you won’t consider it hard work. I enjoy helping others organize their lives and homes. I have recently expanded from cleaning to also assisting with home health care services as well. I what I finds most filling about my occupation is the smile on my client’s faces when I’m done in their homes. I also share the birthday of Mother Teresa, a woman who spent much of her life doing for other’s. In this line of work you get to know your clients there families and watch them grown. These daily interactions and experiences are truly beautiful humbling.
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
One lesson I had to learn the hard way is sometimes the cycle of life occurs and no matter how much we prepare as humans it’s never enough. Once my business expanded into home health care needed I was so excited about the expansion that I didn’t think about the draw backs. One of which concerns life and death. Loosing a client is like loosing a close friend. You’re not just a care provider but their companion a person that spend quality time together. Helping provide the best care possible in their last moments of life. It’s definitely a hard job to do but definitely has to be done.
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
I live in a state that has the right to hire and fire without clause. Meaning no reason has to be given just a notice that you’re no longer needed or terminated. As a business owner this two come with the business and you as the owner have to overcome these obstacles and challenges. One piece of advice I would give is to always be marketing your business. If you don’t have a lot of cash start with social media marketing it’s free just create an account. Rule 2: Keep your business and personal life separate don’t share the accounts. 3: don’t forget about word of mouth. You be surprised how far a business can go with just talking to people. 4: invest in business card and hand them out leave them in other business. Always as first to leave your business information. Look online for other platforms you can use to expose your business. Last but not least know that a business is not usually successful in the first year usually see profit in the second year but stay focused every business is not the same. Hard work and dedication pays off hang in there.
