We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Ebony Thyme . We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Ebony below.
Ebony, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today. Let’s kick things off with your mission – what is it and what’s the story behind why it’s your mission?
Hello my name is Ebony Thyme. I am a full time Locum Tenen Nurse Practitioner also known as a Travel Nurse Practitioner. I am also a full time travel content creator. Life wasn’t always this way. I was raised by an immigrant father from Jamaica and lived in the south Bronx with my two brothers. My dad always stressed education as a key to success. Being a daughter of a immigrant father, I felt like I couldn’t let my dad down. I completed nursing school in 2018 (this included obtaining my masters degree as well) and decided to solely focus on myself after achieving the goal of getting a nursing education. I started off as a travel nurse & tapped into international traveling especially solo traveling since a lot of my friends didn’t have a flexible schedule like mine. I truly cherished my freedom, flexibility, new experiences around the world, getting in tune with new cultures, actually seeing what I read about in my history textbooks. I was in awe about the beauty of this world. Exploring it was my happiness. 1 year later I decided to put my travels aside to utilize my degree as a nurse practitioner, I landed a job as a staff np in urgent care and quickly felt burnt out. I did not like the restrictions that was placed on my career. Imagine, going from all of this freedom, flexibility to make your own schedule, choosing which part of the world I wanted to work in to now being told that I had to request time off, I had limited PTO, vacation, and sick time. I quit my job and became a travel np three years ago. I am strong believer in manifesting everything you want in life, with no restrictions or judgment. I cherish being a provider, teaching my patients to be the absolute best version of themselves. But I’n order to do that I had to make sure I was well physically, emotionally, mentally, and spiritually so that I can continue to fill the cups of my patients. Today I have the only comprehensive course to teach other nurse practitioners, like myself become locum tenens so they can manifest the best versions of their lives, whether it is traveling, tapping into their business endeavors, or spending more time with their children, family, and love ones without neglecting their well-being. Without compassion fatigue or burnout in their careers.

Ebony, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I said some of it in the last question but to further elaborate. I knew that becoming a travel np was something I wanted to do while I was in np school. I just didn’t have any information about it. Over the past three years I learned everhthing I needed to know, I also went through trail and error with understanding how my career path worked. I now teach nurse practitioners, student nurse practitioners, and even locum tenen nurse practitioners how to successfully thrive as a locum tenen the right way, without any mistakes through my comprehensive course “The Locum Tenen Guide”. The locum tenen guide consist of virtual learning modules where I teach those who are enrolled know what to expect in their locum tenen interview interviews, how to create and establish LLC’s the right way, there are experts right inside my course that teaches more about business credit, health insurance, malpractice insurance, taxes for independent contractors, long term retirement planning, estate planning, passive income, stocks and investments, credentialing process for locums and more. I also have a private community of practicing NP, aspiring travel np, and locum tenen NP’s where we discuss different topics, and provide each other information. Those enrolled are provided with locum tenen and telehealth opportunities as well as a list of 50+ recruiters to reach out to for opportunities. I also host masterclasses and webinars to truly create a pathway for nurse practitioners to excel in this career path. I am most proud of creating a super comprehensive guide and a community that is well needed in the healthcare profession. One of my biggest accomplishments was that one of my clients who actually enrolled in the locum tenen guide was able to use my course as her DNP project. This is truly the future of nursing. I want those who work with me to know that they have already earned their degree, now it’s time to craft that dream career they always wanted.
I am also cofounder of my group trips for solo travelers @globalescapetravels I take those who are interested in content creation, culture, and adventure around the world with me to explore different countries.
