We recently connected with Ebony Jackson and have shared our conversation below.
Ebony, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. What do you think it takes to be successful?
I believe that to be successful, you have to have drive, confidence, and the ability to stay consistent and that’s it! I do not think that anyone needs to be spectacular to be successful, you just have to have the confidence and the drive to keep going! I believe that anyone can do ANYTHING if they just believe they can do it and stay consistent.
In my life, I’ve wanted to do many things and I’ve had plenty of ideas. All the things that have been “successful” are things I never stopped working towards. I used to think things happened by luck, but now I know that is not the case. At all. Nothing happens by luck or accident, as success is very intentional. I’ve learned that if I continue to work towards a goal, and even if I don’t reach that goal during the time frame I’ve set, I have at least gotten closer to my goal and gained knowledge that can make better. Success can only come to you if you believe it can and if you stay consistent in doing the work. It’s not easy, but it’s definitely not as hard as I once thought it was.
Ebony, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I am a social media content creator who specializes in creating aesthetically pleasing short form video content. I also help aspiring creators build their platforms and personal brands so they can do exactly what I do!
I got into this business by documenting my weight loss journey and process, and my content blew up! The Keto Kween was born and my life changed. I did not come into this space looking to make money, it just started happening naturally after I created a community and stayed consistent in my posting. I’ve been able to work alongside my favorite brands, and it’s just a full circle amazing experience.
I’m so passionate about helping aspiring creators enter this space, because there is REALLY space for everyone here! I’m happy to be the mentor I wish I had when I was first starting.
Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
Whew, I have definitely had to pivot in business. My very first business venture was an online boutique. I spent all of my money on inventory and I didn’t really have an established brand. I tried and failed, but I really appreciate that experience. I learned so much about business and if I do want to open up a boutique again, I know exactly what NOT to do LOL. It took me over 3 years to finally shut down my boutique after getting almost no sales and basically hoarding my inventory. The decision to close my boutique and focus on my social media career was one of the best things I’ve ever done.
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
The key to building an audience on social media is sharing VALUABLE content and staying consistent. You have to be sharing content that solves a problem for your audience. For example, I shared weight loss tips and recipes which educated and inspired my audience. You don’t necessarily have to educate though, you can provide value by entertaining (solving the problem of boredom) or even motivating! Some type of value is necessary to keep your audience happy and coming back. Consistency is just as important! For your audience to grow, you absolutely have to post regularly. No one will stay interested if you aren’t sharing more content. A tip for staying consistent and avoiding burnout is batch creating and making sure you’re sharing content about topics you’re knowledgeable about and comfortable with sharing.
