We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Ebony Hardy. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Ebony below.
Ebony, appreciate you joining us today. What do you think it takes to be successful?
Success, to me, is not merely a superficial desire. It is a profound commitment to intentional actions and continuous personal and professional growth. It goes beyond just wanting to achieve something; it is about actively seeking knowledge, embracing learning opportunities, and staying updated with industry trends. Success, to me, is also about finding mentors and role models who can guide and inspire me along the way.
I believe that success is not solely determined by external factors but requires an internal drive and determination. It is about giving my all, putting in 110% effort every day, even when faced with challenges or when the numbers don’t seem to add up. Success is a result of unwavering perseverance and resilience, pushing through tough times and never giving up.
While success may seem like an overnight phenomenon in the social media age, I recognize that it is a journey that requires careful planning, setting clear goals, and taking consistent action steps towards those goals. It demands patience, as it takes time to see the fruits of our labor.
Moreover, spirituality and faith play a significant role in my definition of success. I believe that success is not complete without a strong relationship with God. It is this spiritual foundation that provides guidance, purpose, and strength during challenging times. It serves as a source of inspiration and motivation, helping me overcome obstacles and stay focused on the bigger picture.
In summary, success, to me, is a holistic concept that encompasses intentional actions, continuous learning, mentorship, unwavering determination, and a strong spiritual foundation. It is a journey of growth, resilience, and self-reflection.

Ebony, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I am the visionary founder behind Healing Not Hurting. My personal journey has shaped the mission of my business and the impact I strive to make in the world.
In 2019, I faced a profound challenge that shook me to my core. It was a moment of darkness and despair, but instead of letting it define me, I chose to rise above it. I turned my pain into my purpose. I realized that there was a need for a new approach to healing, especially within the African American community.
With a burning passion to create change, I founded Healing Not Hurting in November of that year. It became my mission to revolutionize wellness and empower individuals to heal from intergenerational trauma. I wanted to provide a comprehensive approach that addresses not only the physical but also the mental and emotional aspects of healing.
Through Healing Not Hurting, I offer a diverse range of resources, including books, journals, workshops, and empowering accessories and apparel. I firmly believe in the power of knowledge and self-discovery in the healing process. By providing these tools, I aim to empower individuals to embark on their personal healing journeys.
One of my proudest accomplishments is the development of the Destined to Reign curriculum. This curriculum, specifically designed for teens, goes beyond traditional academics. It equips students with essential life skills and fosters resilience, confidence, and leadership qualities. I have a vision of nurturing the next generation, empowering them to break free from the chains of intergenerational trauma.
Healing Not Hurting is not just about me or the next generation. It is about creating a ripple effect that transcends generations. My ultimate goal is to empower individuals to replace intergenerational trauma with intergenerational healing. Through breaking down barriers and inspiring transformation, I strive to make healing prevail over hurting.
I am proud of my unwavering commitment and the passion that drives me and the entire Healing Not Hurting team. Together, we aim to make a lasting impact on the lives of those we serve. We want to provide individuals with the tools and resources they need to live their best lives, free from the constraints of pain and suffering.
I invite you to join me on this incredible journey towards healing, empowerment, and positive change. Remember, wellness is the new luxury!

We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
There was a moment in my journey that truly exemplifies my resilience. It was a time when I had to practice what I preach about healing and setting boundaries.
I often emphasize the importance of standing up for oneself and understanding that not everyone can accompany you on your healing journey, even if they are family. Unfortunately, there were family members who didn’t understand or didn’t want to do their own healing work, which hindered my growth and progress.
Last year, I had to take a dose of my own medicine and make the difficult decision to remove these family members from my life. It was a painful experience, but I knew it was necessary to continue my own growth and the healing work I had dedicated myself to over the years.
Despite the pain, I didn’t let it stop me. I continued to push forward with my business and personal growth. In fact, it was during this time that I pushed myself further than ever before in the history of my business. This experience truly showcases my resilience and determination to keep going despite the challenges I faced.
It serves as a reminder that resilience is not just about bouncing back from adversity; it is also about making difficult decisions and pushing oneself beyond perceived limits. This journey has taught me the importance of prioritizing my own healing and growth, even if it means letting go of people who are holding me back.

How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
Certainly! There was a significant moment in my life when I had to make a major pivot in my career.
For a decade, I worked as a cosmetologist, and I was passionate about the beauty industry. However, deep down, I knew that it wasn’t my true purpose in life. Although it was a difficult decision, I made the choice to fully walk away from my role as a cosmetologist and dedicate myself entirely to the mission of Healing Not Hurting.
It was a pivotal moment that required a leap of faith. I had to trust that I was making the right decision and believe in the path that God had laid out for me. While I had a passion for cosmetology, I recognized that Healing Not Hurting was where my true purpose resided.
This decision to pivot was not easy. It meant leaving behind a career that I had invested years into and stepping into the unknown with Healing Not Hurting. However, I was determined to give it my all, knowing that it was aligned with my purpose and the impact I wanted to make in the world.
Trusting in God’s guidance, I embraced the challenges and uncertainties that came with this pivot. It required resilience, perseverance, and a deep belief in the mission of Healing Not Hurting. This pivotal moment marked a significant turning point in my life, as I shifted my focus towards empowering individuals to heal from intergenerational trauma.
Looking back, I am grateful for the courage to pivot and pursue my purpose. It has allowed me to make a profound difference in the lives of others and fulfill a calling that goes beyond my own personal aspirations. The decision to fully commit to Healing Not Hurting has been transformative and has shaped the course of my life in ways I could have never imagined.
