Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Ebony Adell. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Ebony , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Naming anything – including a business – is so hard. Right? What’s the story behind how you came up with the name of your brand?
Yoga has been an important part of my life for over 20 years. Through my yoga practice I learned about tantric yoga and tantric sex. I was drawn to the idea of the connection between spirituality and sex. But what blew my mind was the chakras. I instantly visualized them, felt it and could make the correlations between my chakras and my physical reality. It made so much sense to me and I began to paint them incorporate them into every part of my life including my online business. So I taught tantra to master the philosophy and techniques; as well as evolve my yoga practice.
There was merch with the online business but I wanted to expand offline and started painting the chakras on shirts. That’s when I learned about sustainable fashion, making organic cotton t-shirts. One day it hit me like what if I can translate the chakras into personalized looks. Then I decided to do a full on brand based on chakras and tantra reflecting my sustainable ahimsa lifestyle and call it TSX Design House or Tantric Sex Design House.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My name is Ebony Adell™ and I am an international sustainable luxury designer, protest artist, author, educator, holistic stylist @Glamhive, yogi and mother of 3. The founder of TSX Design House™, LLeda Art Enterprises™, Godhead Productions™ and Yoga, Yance and Chakra Dance™. Art, fashion and entrpreneurship has always been a part of my life. One of my great-grandfathers was a sharecropper and my grandparents were entrepreneurs. My dad was an artist, my mom is like an interior designer and very artistically inclined. My family owned a tavern and my grandmother was the first African American member of the Schlitz Stein Club in the United States. I was raised around beautiful, hardworking, very fashionable people. My great aunts were like socialites of the day in the south. My mom and I had a tradition of attending Ebony Fashion Fair Fashion Shows.
I think I began seriously considering art as a career in my 20’s while I was modeling, then assistant designing for a local brand that was going national. But I’ve been artist and writer all my life.
The United States generates 17 million tons of waste from the global fashion industry per year. Worldwide the amount is 92 million tons. We aim to combat socioenvironmental oppression by minimizing our carbon footprint and offer limited edition, made to order sustainable products, services available at three price points with free lifetime repair and reconstruction of our products. Our goal is to be 100% sustainable and for the brand to be GOTS certified within 10 years.
The Holistic Makeover solves the problem of inner subconcious imbalance. It balances your chakras by making over your insides(mind, body, soul) through yoga and meditation and then connect that same energy and those vibrations on the outside through the styling and clothes.
We identify, amplify and activate the chakras of our clients and customers through our apparel and yoga. Our clothes are your koshas. Part of the mission of TSXDH is to inform our community about sustainable lifestyle options to extend the life of the community and encompassing the fashion platform as social protest. The brand appeals to a certain type of energy and values as opposed to race, gender geography or socioeconomic status. All types of people visual, auditory, reading and writing, and kinesthetic.
I’m proud of the impact that my experience has on my children and my students. Watching somebody that looks like them, their mother, sister and peers pursue their dreams. While seeing some glimmer of success and be a mom, working a 9-5 and building this brand universe, my legacy. I set the example, the proof that if you manifest, meditate then take action within your physical reality you can achieve anything. I’m authentic. and I believe in my purpose.

Have any books or other resources had a big impact on you?
There are four books that have impacted my ideology more than any others. Idiot’s Guide to Tantric Sex, Yoga Sutras of Patanjali, Black Theology, Black Power by: James Cone and a book that I can’t remember the name of; about Hildegard of Bingen. Cone and Bingen were introduced to me while I was a student at Mount Mary University in 2007 and 2008. I came into college with the brand in tow, the plan was to build it through my assignments and projects.
Dr. Reverend Adam Bond taught a theology class called African American Religious History. The timeline began in Africa before slavery, to when we were taken, then it led all the way up to the election of Barack Obama. Black Theology, Black Power was my source book for a paper I wrote about The Black Power Movement and the black church. This book transformed me in 3 ways. Number one, it posed the question of the “role” of the black artist in the revolution against white supremacy. The author reminded me that art is artifacts. It tells the story, sets the pace, and reflects the times. When civilizations are gone the artifacts are what define the historical context. So I thought I could create sustainable clothes that represent chakras and koshas; actually amplifying the vibrations of the wearer through the artifact. Number two, he introduced Christianity through the lens pf a liberation theology. Number three he introduced the perspective that Jesus was an activist, and that’s what gas lit and amplified the flames of activism within me and the brand. I made that connection of sustainability and socioenvironmental oppression and that became the ideology and reignited mission. I also discovered that Harriet Tubman was a yogi, who considered yoga a social protest for freedom.
Hildegard was the subject of Dr. Jennifer Hockenberry’s Women Philosophers class. Along with Sojourner Truth, Mary Magdalene, Mary Wolstencraft, Angela Davis and many more. Hockenberry inspired and encouraged me to think deeper, and she encouraged me to write. Her class was the seed for my books; SxEyecon(3 bookseries) and The Holistic Makeover Series: The Chakra Activation Seminar(3 book series).
Now Hildegard Von Bingen had visions from God and while on her pilgrimage she solidified her belief that orgasm is the closest you get to God other than death. That aligns with tantra and the link between spirituality and sex. As well as my belief that your 21st chakra, in the 6th dimension is that moment of orgasm, connected to svadhisthana, when you touch God and the moment when you die and reach God. This is when I painted the remainder of my first visual mantras series, chakras 1-7 yr. 2008.
My mission was beyond the brand. It was my purpose to help sustain the community through mind(meditation), body(sustainable clothes), and soul(yoga/chakra activation).

Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
Evolution and cohesion. My brand is seamlessly evolving all the time, circular. From the start I acquired as much knowlege as I could, Fashion, sustainability, marketing, chakras, color theory, couture, textiles, art, publishing etc. I keep myself and TSXDH relevant through constant education. I authentically live the brand and actively engage. International networking and partnering with other sustainable projects like: certifications in Luxury Brand Management and mentoring with Copenhagen on global green projects. I attend seminars, retreats and host them as well. Now that I’ve launched Transcend8 at London Fashion Week with Oxford Fashion Studios Fall 2021, booked Fall 2022 London and Paris, got internationally published, launched online stores and my art is internationally showing for the first time I think the industry is beginning to finally see me as a force and I’ve gotten this far with manifestation and without the investors.
