We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Ebony a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Ebony , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today The first dollar your business earns is always special and we’d love to hear how your brand made its first dollar of revenue.
My first client happened to be my cousin. She had an event and wanted to support my business. It was so touching. She also didn’t ask for a discount. I always tell people I’m so fortunate I have loved ones who support me and want to see me succeed.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I was planning events for years. My kids would always have these extravagant birthday parties. I thoroughly enjoyed organizing them. The kick was executing the vision. It brought me so much joy. The kids always looked forward to going to our parties. We always had a good time and made sure it was memorable.
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
I had to unlearn being eager. I needed to slow down. It’s all a process. At times we tend to be excited and eager and that can hinder our growth. I’m working now on time management to make the business life efficient. It was important I do this because I started to feel overwhelmed. I’m a one woman’s show and also had to learn to ask for help and delegate task. That way I don’t suffer mentally and physically as a business owner.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
Currently, I’m pushing forward despite the challenges. Due to the cost of living and cost in material and labor it’s been slow for me. I’ve realized it’s okay and I’m coming up with other ways to make passive income. It’s important we don’t put all our eggs in one basket.
