We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Ebonie Brown. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Ebonie below.
Ebonie, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Let’s start with the story of your mission. What should we know?
The story behind my mission is a young lady that was lost and less likely to be anything in life. Now I’m a business owner, mother, and I wear many other hats. Life was rough and tough but no matter how hard it was I always found myself doing hair and encouraging other people with their problems in life. I don’t do hair because it’s my gift. Doing hair is just the “bait” lol but my purpose is to share the good news and share my testimony to help bring other people out of darkness! This is why I love what I do! It’s not the money, it’s not popularity, but it is literally the people! I love making people feel and look good.

Ebonie, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Hi my name is Ebonie and I am a mother, business owner, licensed cosmetologist, and many other things. I am the owner of Glory Hair Care Salon. I got in the hair industry around 14 years old. I tried to run away from it but it didn’t work lol. I have been a professional licensed cosmetologist for 8 years now and I’m in my second year of being a business owner. I offer a number of services such as natural hair care, braids, weaves, children styles, and more. Most of the problems I solve for my clients is educating them about what products will work for the overall health of their hair. One thing I believe that sets me a part is the love I give to everyone that sits in my chair and the atmosphere I create for my clients to enjoy. If they want to laugh, be silent, cry, ANYTHING they can do that! I’m most proud of how my life has literally turned around for the BEST!! If I told you the person I was you wouldn’t believe me lol but let’s just say I don’t look like what I’ve been through!! I would love for people to know that my salon is a safe place, it’s a safe space. Glory Hair Care Salon is a faith based salon and I honor God with my business. I don’t allow gossip and vulgar language and whatever else that’s degrading and in our typical salons today. It’s safe for kids! I take pride in my brand because God gave it to me and I do my best to stewert it well. I hope I have the opportunity to see some new faces soon. Thanks for reading!
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
A lesson I had to unlearn is to have expectations of people. What do I mean by that? Well when you’re doing anything in the lane of entrepreneurship, you automatically expect certain people (family, friends, etc) to support you and that’s the wrong thing to do and I would even say it’s not fair. Here’s why! No one should ever support you out of obligation or fear of losing their relationship with you. Another thing is not everyone you know will be your targeted audience (this is key)! You may have a product or specific service you offer that may not be for everyone you know. When you don’t have expectations of others, you’re guarding your own heart and mind from offense and bitterness, you’re guarding your relationships, and you’re also creating healthy boundaries for your business. Value your relationships more than money!!

How do you keep your team’s morale high?
To manage a team you need patience, integrity, and discernment. Patience for yourself and others. Integrity to stand true to those core values and morals. Discernment to know who spells team with a e or an “I”. The key to having a successful team is everyone finding a solution and not going back and forth about the problem!
