Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Eboni Matthews. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Eboni, thanks for joining us today. Was there a defining moment in your professional career? A moment that changed the trajectory of your career?
I’ve always had a passion for helping others. I’ve had the opportunity to work with so many populations, and I’ve found it to be so rewarding.
It wasn’t until I became a mother, and was challenged with balancing my roles as wife, new mom, and professional, that I struggled with understanding who I was becoming.
This ignited my passion for empowering other women, who might be feeling stuck, and overwhelmed. It was this passion that pushed me start my own practice, focuses on the mental health of women.

Eboni, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I am a mental health therapist and owner of Her Journey Counseling in Atlanta, Georgia. I help women find the courage to empower themselves, by teaching them how to tackle self-limiting beliefs, communicate more effectively, and practice self compassion in order to have more self-confidence, maintain healthier relationships and improve overall wellness.
At Her Journey, we provide Life Coaching services, Individual Psychotherapy , and specialized group therapy.
I combine my professional experience as a licensed social worker, mental health therapist, and healthcare worker, with my own personal life experiences, to help other women find the courage to empower themselves.
Putting training and knowledge aside, what else do you think really matters in terms of succeeding in your field?
Being genuine! Everyone stresses the importance of building a strong therapeutic alliance with clients, but no one talks about how important it is to show up as yourself! Therapists are human too! In my time with my clients, we laugh, we share, but we always so the WORK! People sense inauthenticity, and are less likely to trust you if you aren’t being REAL.
Be yourself!

How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
I believe that leading with compassion and empathy in my daily work, has helped build my reputation. I love what I do and I love the people that I get to do it with. When my clients find my services helpful , they share with their friends and family! Word of mouth is a wonderful marketing tool!
