We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Eboni Johnson. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Eboni below.
Eboni, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. We’d love to go back in time and hear the story of how you came up with the name of your brand?
Well, Ebonis Gifted Hands came about of course using my first name. I used “Gifted” because according to the Bible we are all born with gifts, and it also says that “your gifts will make room for you”. I used the word “Hands” because I simply work with my hands.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers?
I am a 29 year old, married hair braider. I’ve been braiding since the age of 8. Ironically, all of older female cousin did hair, as well as a few of my Aunts. I would watch them braid without them realizing I was watching. I would try what they did on a small Barbie doll. I did it over, and over until I got it. I started braiding my younger cousin, and friends hair at the age of 12. By the time I got to High School, I was charging $65. I worked a few jobs but I would always braid hair on the side, until April 2018, when I decided to turn my passion until a business. I’ve been braiding hair full time since then.
As a hair braider, I provide braid services which clients natural hair, and well as extensions. As a braider, I solve problems with my speed. Most hair braiders take 8-10 hours to complete a service. I on the other hand can complete a specific service in under 6 hours. I’m most proud of my growth as a business owner, as well as my skill set. Often times I think that my work is amazing, and I can do a side by side of a service I provide 6 months prior and there is a big difference in the quality. To potential clients, I want you to know that I don’t only braid, but I care about your hair as well as your scalp. I clean all of the hair, and I also provide the hair for all braid services. I work in an intimate space, so it’s always myself and the client in the room. This was important to me due to me having clients with cancer, and hair loss issues.

What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
Social Media, and clients.
Social Media has helped tremendously with me receiving new clients. It’s made marketing easy, and fun. My long term clients have played an even bigger role than social media. They have become walking billboards, models, and even assistants at time when someone stops them to ask about their hair. I didn’t think that my clients and social media would be “that thing” I needed in my business, but I see now that the two work effortlessly together, and it’s definitely a must have in my field.

We’d love to hear about how you keep in touch with clients.
Yes. Absolutely !
I believe a good hair stylist creates bonds/relationships with their clients. With my line of work my clients are sitting with me from 2-10 hours. I think that it would be kind of awkward sitting in silence for so many hours. With us having so many hours together, we converse, and often times my clients share a lot of personal information. I send a lot of “hey i was just checking on you”, or “I thought about you” text messages out. I think it adds a little pizzazz to the client/professional relationship.
