We recently connected with Eboni Croney and have shared our conversation below.
Eboni, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Let’s start with education – we’d love to hear your thoughts about how we can better prepare students for a more fulfilling life and career.
Definitely change the school system. There is so much I could have learned in school, that could have replaced the things I actually learned. For one thing, taxes. Need I say more? I didn’t learn about taxes but I learned how to do math when they start adding letters. I learned the history of slaves, and colonization, but I didn’t learn about the business owners of my people. I never learned how to do mental math. My brain was never really challenged. Because of the way the school system is, I don’t even plan on raising my future children in America. I would much rather go to a different country where my children will get a real education with knowledge that will matter in the end.
Eboni, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My name is Eboni Croney. I am a daughter of 2 Ministers/a vocalist and a really hardworking, can fix/build anything with his hands man. I am currently 26 at the time of writing this, and am in school for Radiology with a goal of becoming a tech of Ultrasonography.
Photography started for me in April 2020. I had no job, no schooling, and nothing to do. I was in a horrendous relationship, and the only thing that came out of it was my first camera which I still use today. I found a love for photos through YouTube, believe it or not. People like Sorelle Amore, and Jessica Kobeissi taught me the love of the camera and the love of myself in front of the camera. When I started photography, I didn’t have a laptop to edit on. I edited everything through my phone on Lightroom mobile. I learned about my camera settings, lighting, colors, poses, movements, and so much more.
I created the brand EMCroneyPhotography because this is something I have a real passion for. My studies, I started for stability. With my photography, this is something I want to take my time with. I want to really zone in on my craft, learn what I love to specialize in, and perfect my editing and my style. I’ve learned I love shooting weddings. Weddings are my ultimate goal. I have shot 4 weddings so far, and I am still not fully satisfied with my work.
I enjoy portraits. Fashion and beauty portraits are my favorites to capture. I also love doing graduation portraits. If I had to categorize my works it would be Engagements/Couples, Fashion/Beauty, and Graduation Portraits. All of these you can see on my website emcroneyphotography.com.
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
Freedom. I want to travel the world with my camera. I want to have my name known so couples invite me to shoot their weddings or elopements on destination. I also want my work to reflect me. I want my client’s faces to jump out at you. I want the models to shine, and my wedding images to really tell a story in the end.
How did you put together the initial capital you needed to start your business?
Remember I said I was in a horrendous relationship, well my camera and my laptop were gifted by my boyfriend at the time. I never asked for it and later I realized he bought it to use as leverage over me. Luckily, I was smarter than that, and it never worked.
