Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Ebonee K. Donald. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Ebonee K., thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today We’d love to have you retell us the story behind how you came up with the idea for your business, I think our audience would really enjoy hearing the backstory.
In December of 2022 I was traveling with my sister to Myrtle Beach from Columbia, South Carolina. This was about a 3.5 hour road trip for us. This drive was a scenic route with colorful trees, fields, and several hawks that we felt followed us the entire drive. It felt like we were right at home driving during a beautiful Fall sunny day in Michigan. While driving I started to think and talk about how I officially started to evolve and grow to see my true purpose on this Earth. I spoke with my sister about how I was taking baby steps to show who I really am and showing up on social media and in person. I never thought of myself as being a shy or quiet person, but when it came down to stepping in front of a crowd or a new group of people I tend to hide behind the loudest person and stay in the background. I started to have visions of myself traveling to lead and teach groups and speaking on stages. Those visions didn’t match who I was deep on the inside. I was excited for these visions that were given by God. Traveling has always been my passion and love language. Being able to add leadership, teaching, and speaking all while traveling is a bonus.
During this time of reflection, I started to realize that I was the issue and the roadblock to my growth! I have always stood in my own way of everything I ever wanted to do. I limited my strengths, held myself back, and never operated out of my full potential. I allowed outsiders to tell me what I was and wasn’t capable of. I allowed people and circumstances to plant a negative seed in me that I watered regularly. I spoke life to the negative seeds that we all planted inside of me. On that beautiful sunny Winter day, I declared that I would pull every negative sprout that was planted up by the root, and come out of agreement with every lie I repeated about myself. I sowed new positive seeds and spoke life into myself for everything I wanted to see and be.
The perfect words hit me, “Overcoming You!” That’s exactly what I was doing, I was taking the time and steps to overcome myself!
Sometimes we have to acknowledge that we are the problem. We get so comfortable and complacent in where we are that we aren’t growing. In those moments and times we have to get comfortable with being uncomfortable and begin the process of Overcoming You. This is how “Overcoming You” was born! “Overcoming You” coaching program was created to hold my clients accountable to overcome personal obstacles that stop them from being successful in life, business, and walking in their purpose.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
Good morning good morning good morningggg!! My name is Ebonee K. Donald better known as Coach Ebonee K. I am a Certified Wake Up Life Coach, Author, and OvercomeHER Faith Strategist. I am a 6-time award winning creative writer, and awarded most outstanding accountability partner. I am a Travelpreneur, a natural born ray of light, leader, influencer, encourager and interceding friend.
There are two things that I have found myself doing throughout all of my adult years. Caring for others and traveling. I began this career working as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA/NCA). My passion has always been to help others physically, mentally, and emotionally. I discovered over the years that I was always a strong friend and tried my best to be where I needed to be for others. My heart posture was to always see others smile and laugh, throughout the best and worst of times. Now traveling was a personal passion and form of self care for myself. Something about a road trip, train ride, or catching a flight that made my heart smile even more.
When it came to the industry of coaching and strategy, I realized I was well established in the skills of communication, organization, training, and serving others. I wondered what I could do to fully step into a role where my skills could be a great asset. I had already been traveling and exploring new experiences but what about this other passion that I had to help others along the way. I caught news of an establishment of faith where women can go to be officially Certified as a Life Coach. I did so much research on the Master Life Coach Instructor and this entrepreneurial opportunity. Everything I saw and asked felt like everything I already embodied and did for others. I enrolled and graduated as a Certified Life Coach. Right before receiving my official certification, I won an award for the Most Outstanding Accountability Partner from another program. It was clear to me that I was on the right path of my true purpose of being a leader. My purpose as my client’s Wake Up Life Coach is to focus on personal limiting boundaries and beliefs and to hold them accountable for who they are purposed to be.

We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
I had to unlearn that I wasn’t worthy and deserving of being a leader, coach, and receiving more out of life. While in college I studied nursing. It had been my goal since the 8th grade to become a Registered Nurse then continue on to be a Nurse Practitioner. I struggled through every Anatomy & Physiology course I took. I even repeated 2 of them 3 times just to get a passing grade. I had finally made it to nursing clinicals to become a LPN. I had bedside manners, medication calculations and medical terms mastered. I could do any nurse observation in my sleep. When it came down to the written test, I failed and dropped out. I felt my time as a nurse had come to an end and I no longer deserved to have the title or initials behind my name. I felt I allowed life’s circumstances and a learning curve to stop me in my tracks from my biggest hope and dream.
As I grew older in my adult years I started to understand why I was such an excellent CNA. I was the best trainer to newly appointed CNAs. My patients absolutely loved all the time I spent and had with them and their families always showed me how grateful they were that I stayed by their family members’ side. I knew deep down I had a passion for caring for those and talking to them as if they were my own family. I remain a CNA in spirit to this day and it still has its rewards for me. I still get testimonials about how well I took care of my patients and residents and it warms my heart. These rewards let me know and understand I’ve been worthy and deserving this entire time. I’ve always been a nurse in God’s eyes and that hasn’t changed.
I now utilize my nursing skills and mix them with my coaching skills to help nurse and nurture my clients on their way to success and beyond. I’ve been called the “Nurturing” Practitioner a time or 2. My coach sessions are a form of self/soul (emotions and mindset) discovery and healing, all while walking into who you are destined to be.

How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
In June of 2023, I came to a pivotal time in my life and career when I left my full time corporate federal career of 11 years to pursue full time entrepreneurship. This in fact was the biggest pivot of my life. I’ve worked in corporate for 25 years and was definitely used to being on someone else’s watch.
Although I made the transition look effortless and sweat less, it was definitely the hardest thing I had to do and get used to. Not knowing what’s on the other side of the corporate world takes an incredible amount of faith. It took months to officially get organized and really hone in on what’s a priority and what’s not. The thought of having my own office hours at 1st felt like a free for all. Not having anyone to hold me 100% accountable but myself was a challenge. I brought on business, life, and finance coaches that helped keep me focused and in alignment with the end goal. They kept me encouraged while giving tips on how to handle my entrepreneurial journey.
Months into this journey I started to question “why did I do this? what was I thinking?” God responded, “someone needs you!” Turns out my father had to have invasive surgery and he needed his “nurse of a daughter” every step of the way due to being immobile at the moment. As time went on, other obvious situations and circumstances needed my undivided attention. If I had a corporate job I would not have been available for those moments in life.
I’ve been able to put together a coaching program, coach and assist other academies, business programs and coaches, and write and publish ‘The Mindset Journal: A 30 Day Journey to Transform’, because I remember hearing the words, “someone needs you!” Someone needs to hear my laugh, see my smiling face, listen to my life story, be coached by me, and begin the transformational journey of ‘Overcoming You’.
