Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Ebanie Wilson . We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Ebanie , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. What do you think it takes to be successful?
I think a lot of people’s idea of success is different. I believe to be successful, first you need to identify and define what success means to you. I believe most people feel like you must have some extraordinary power or advantage to be successful but, you just need to be willing to do the work. Taking ownership of your life and striving for success is not easy. It is hard work but it’s simple. It’s not easy because life is demanding and we have no choice but to learn how to navigate and adapt to our circumstances and situations, but the process is not complicated. You must acknowledge that you need to change the way you think about and perceive things in life. Many of us have a hard time making the mental shift that’s necessary to become successful. Often, we have probably had the same mindset our entire life. If you want to do something different, you have to think different. The mind is a lot more powerful than the body. “As a man thinks, so is he.” Your life is a result, in large part, to your mentality. You really need to be conscious of what you even allow yourself to think. Once you mentally acknowledge the only thing standing between you and what you want in life is the work you need to do and the risk you are scared to take, you’ve already won half the battle. Then, you just need to put your thoughts into action. In my opinion, to be successful, you have to make an intentional decision every day to show up for yourself. You need to hold yourself accountable, you need discipline and focus. Most importantly, you have to be patient and wait on divine timing and alignment.

Ebanie , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I started my entrepreneurship journey in March 2021. My boutique- Fluuter Fashion – was the first business I started. I went to cosmetology school after I graduated high school, so I’ve always been connected to the beauty and fashion industry. After the pandemic hit and I saw how employment was being affected, I took a leap of faith and started my business. After starting my first business, the vision has gotten clearer. In September 2022, I started Three Seventeen Jewelry Co.- a personalized jewelry company and my second project. I’ve always had a passion for beauty and fashion, and since stepping into entrepreneurship, have grown a passion for business and financial literacy. I plan to take an inventive approach as I grow and establish my brands. I believe a million people can do what you do, but nobody can do it like you! I want to create household brands that deliver a high caliber and captivating experience for customers. With Fluuter, I wanted to provide affordable fashion for women. I believe when you look good, you feel good. (your outfit gotta make you feel good!) With Three Seventeen, personalized jewelry is such a unique and eye-catching way to express your style. I look to provide variety in my businesses while still being aware of and serving my target audience. I want my vision to properly translate through my work and I want to create projects that are authentic and can be appreciated by my community. When people see my work, I want to leave them feeling inspired, encouraged, and anticipating more. I hope people see my work not just as a thing I do, but a part of who I am.

We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
A big lesson I had to unlearn was the idea that my purpose needed to fit in a box. That my goals needed to be understood by others to be achievable. I had to unlearn thinking life could only be successful by being one dimensional. I have always had a very big imagination. As I got older, situations in life started to make me feel like I was just blindly optimistic. A day dreamer. That the aspirations I had were not realistic. I went through different jobs and careers looking for the ONE thing I could be passionate about. The ONE thing I wanted to do with my life. I have so many different interests and I’ve spent a lot of time trying to decide which one fulfills me the most. They say “a jack of all trades is a master to none, but oftentimes better than a master of one.” I learned to stop thinking inside a box. You are allowed to have and pursue multiple interest, projects, careers, etc. Naturally, there will be things that come more effortlessly than others, but allow yourself to step outside the box. We often limit ourselves because of the thoughts and ideas that other people place on us. Most of the time we aren’t thinking big enough because our environment is too small. You have to learn how to challenge yourself and do something different. You do not have to be satisfied with what others tell you to be satisfied with. We talk a lot about what the things you must learn in order grow but the things you have to unlearn are equally if not more important. A lot of people struggle because they don’t have people around who support or understand what they are trying to do. But if you feel called to do something trust it. Trust yourself and the decisions you make. You do not have to play small to make others comfortable. Don’t sleep on yourself and don’t limit your potential.
