We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful E.j. Salinas. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with E.J. below.
E.J., thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today What did your parents do right and how has that impacted you in your life and career?
When I was a child, I would always voice my dreams out loud so that my Parents could hear what I was believing would come to pass in my life. For example, I would use phrases such as, “I’m going to do that one day.” This was especially true when it came to places where I believed that I was going to minister. Having said this, in my journey as a creator my Mom would always say, “Just do it.” What she meant by this was that if JESUS had placed something on my heart to do then there was nothing that would be able to stop me. And my Dad would agree by saying, “You do what JESUS told you to do and don’t worry about what anyone else says.” Since hearing these words of encouragement to purse the calling that GOD has placed in my life, I have been able to accomplish so much and have continued pursuing my dreams every day since my childhood. All I can say is that I thank JESUS for the fact that I didn’t have to deal with the struggle of having Parents who didn’t believe in me or didn’t understand the vision that GOD had given to me.
E.J., love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I began preaching, singing, and acting at a very young age. I was always interested in being in front of people and sharing the message of the one who gave me a purpose in life – JESUS CHRIST. This began when I took part in community outreaches in my area and continued when I took part in the Fellowship Of Christian Athletes organization at Sauceda Middle School. As I got older this creativity within me continued taking its shape. I was able to study music at the University Of Texas – Rio Grande Valley and I began developing my social media presence. Soon after I then began pursing acting and music as part of my career shortly after becoming and Elementary Music Teacher. With that in mind, I am on a mission to create the best family friendly entertainment that I can provide with the resources that I currently have available to me. My hope is that in doing so, I can provide people of all ages with clean content that is healthy for their mind, their spirit, and that will bring them closer to JESUS as well as those who are around them. In addition to this, I am hoping that they will come to a place where they can’t help but smile after seeing or listening to my creative works. What give me an advantage is the fact that I am representing a unique area known as the Rio Grande Valley that has also been nicknamed “The 956”. It’s exciting to see how someone like me can be a positive voice for the Youth & Young Adults in my community. And that is what I am most proud of.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
Every morning when I wake up, I wake up knowing that I have a CHRIST-Centered purpose. What is that purpose? That purpose is to make a difference in the lives of the people that GOD has surrounded me with. Currently I am most surrounded by Teachers, Staff, and Students. This means that I feel that it is my everyday task to extend the love, hope, and joy that He has given to me. As a minister who also happens to be an artist, a creative, and a teacher this also means finding unique ways of doing so wherever I go. Why am I saying this in order to answer this question. Here’s why. The most rewarding aspect of having this role is when I get to see the result of walking in that CHRIST-Centered purpose. What result is that? It’s the smile and laughter of students who normally don’t expresses themselves in this way unless they see me or hear me singing. It’s the little gifts of appreciation that are given to me by people of all ages throughout the year. It’s the thanks that I receive from Parents after putting together a performance where I work. That is what I would define as the most rewarding aspect.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
There are two goals that I would say are driving my creative journey. The first is to see people’s eyes turn from their current circumstance to JESUS. Only He can offer the hope that we are all so desperately looking for. And the second is that after seeing my work people of all ages would be encouraged to get creative and get moving on what GOD has called them to do. I believe that all a person needs is just a little push in the right direction so that they may be encouraged to keep moving forward in that calling.
