Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Dynastee “Honest” Harris . We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Dynastee “Honest” , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Folks often look at a successful business and imagine it was an overnight success, but from what we’ve seen this is often far from the truth. We’d love to hear your scaling up story – walk us through how you grew over time – what were some of the big things you had to do to grow and what was that scaling up journey like?
My story all began with comedy. I would go through droughts of happiness and I needed ways to pick myself up. I would always watch stand-up comedy and different movies that would make me laugh in order to give myself a refill of energy. However, I got tired of watching everyone else make me laugh and had skits in my head that I wanted to do. I was home alone and had nothing else to do might as well play around on some apps and make little skits to share with my friends.
So I would make a bunch of skits called “Studs Vs Fems”. From there, I started going viral. From Facebook, to IG, I started trending. This lead promoters in the ATL LGBTQ community invite me to event. Somehow, I ended up getting on the mic; which is how I got where I am currently. I allowed my darkest times to be the light at the end of the tunnel for me. I continued to get better and better at my craft by working different types of events and not putting a cap on myself to stay in one genre. I would host things from fashion shows to prom to night club events to day parties. Basically any audience that would have me, I used as my stomping grounds to gain experience. I had to humble myself and understand that everyone else’s lane, is not my lane. I work in an industry and community that is generally led by “studs” in the entertainment industry. It was hard to prove myself until I realized that I didn’t have to prove myself, I just needed to be myself and the rest has been history.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
I am currently enrolling into school to further my career in the healthcare industry. I currently work for a major financial institution in accounts payable. Needless to say, I am a really big nerd on the inside and so I embrace that side of me in my 9-to-5 life.
But what I am notably known for more so than anything is potentially being a brand ambassador under my brand ThottyGirlEnt for different brands in the LGBT community in Atlanta. I work with a lot of entrepreneurs that believed in me and gave me the mic like “let’s see what you got”.
The feedback I’ve been given is I’m versatile, funny and have great energy and I believe that I bring that to the table which is why everyone likes to hire me (laughs) so I can adopt anyone’s brand and be a great representation of their brand and bring love light and laughter to any occasion. Services I offer include but are not limited to hosting events, brand procurement, social media marketing, event planning, brand counseling, and business marketing.
I am also an actress and content creator which is definitely a passion that will live in my heart. I’m honestly a “Jill of all Trades”!
I am most proud of my ability to continue to thrive in this industry. As of last year, I have started hosting various Pride’s in various cities! This year, not only am I apart of Atlanta pride for the 3rd year in a row, but I have scored a position on the official Atlanta Black Pride list of hosts for 2022! This is easily one of my biggest accomplishments in my brand ambassador bookings for me.
I have definitely made some moves this year such as having a High Tea Brunch at an executive women’s club in Atlanta to facilitating my very first Atlanta Pride Slumber Party.
I was always made to believe that I wasn’t as big as I thought I was in my head but I proved myself wrong by continuing to put out different events on my own! I am normally under someone else’s brand. I am proud of myself for not believing the little voices that said that I couldn’t.
In 2022, I have excelled in social media marketing more than I have ever done so in the past. I have over 30,000 followers across three platforms which is quite a bit for someone as shy as me. I have definitely stepped out of my comfort zone and into what everyone tells me is my “truth” and I am living to live! My brand ThottyGirlEnt has grown drastically in the last 365 days and I can’t wait for the next!
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
So the way that I built my following on social media is by simply being myself. I would have insomnia at nights after working at clubs hosting in addition to working my 9 to 5 and just couldn’t sleep so I would get up and make Tictoc‘s or entire videos and kept my algorithms moving by posting relevant topics. The advice that I have for anyone tried to grab their social media marketing is to remember to put ten items in your story (on FB or IG) post five posts a day and try to share three relevant topics that your audience would like to see. So if you know that a lot of your followers are foodies even though your business is not about food, post it! People will pop up on your timeline and vice versa you’ll begin to pop up on theirs as well even if it’s not about food in the future inadvertently expanding your audience.
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
The one thing that helped me gain acceptance in my community, I believe ,was just being myself. I really can’t express that enough. There’s a lot of people that want to be seen. Me?! I was one that was always behind the scenes. I didn’t really want to be seen due to feeling insecure about my weight. However, my talent spoke for itself and said that I should be where I am. Not because I wanted to be here or because I attempted to get to this level but this is just where the universe lead me and I got here by just being me. So was born “ Your Favorite Thick B!tch Honest”! I embrace who I am and I give 110% when I hit any stage!
