We were lucky to catch up with Dylan Smith recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Dylan, thanks for joining us today. Do you think your parents have had a meaningful impact on you and your journey?
My parents did everything right. First and foremost, though, they taught me about Jesus. For me, everything comes back to Him, including my work. With all of my projects, I try my best to bring Him glory, not myself. After all, He’s the one that gave me these talents in the first place. Having said all of that, my parents did everything they needed to do.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
For those that don’t know me, my name is Dylan Smith and I’m a graphic designer in Nashville, TN. I have experience creating brand identities, environmental graphics, page layouts, and more. I enjoy spending time with my family, going to Disney Parks, and I’m a dedicated fan of Seattle sports.
As mentioned previously, creating brand identities is one of the things that I do best. From logo design to colors, I love everything about the process of bringing brands to life. It never gets old.
I suppose you could say that I got my start when I was a kid. My dad helped me learn how to draw, as he was an outstanding illustrator. That was really all it took. I grew up doing every creative thing I could get my hands on. Eventually, I put all of the pieces together and here I am now.
I’ve been in the industry now for a little over five years. I work full-time as an in-house designer in the marketing department at Gresham Smith. After my workday is done, I just keep it going by switching gears to my freelance work. I really never stop working, as work is my hobby and I get restless if I’m not doing something. I definitely get that from my mom.
I try to immerse myself in as many design opportunities as I can find. I love what I do and I just want to do as much as I can while I’m here on this earth. I’m blessed to even have these abilities, so why not do all I can?
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
Truly, my only goals are to bring glory to God, provide for my family, and have fun. As long as I can do those three things with my work, I’m a happy camper.
