Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Dylan Peterson. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Dylan, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Coming up with the idea is so exciting, but then comes the hard part – executing. Too often the media ignores the execution part and goes from idea to success, skipping over the nitty, gritty details of executing in the early days. We think that’s a disservice both to the entrepreneurs who built something amazing as well as the public who isn’t getting a realistic picture of what it takes to succeed. So, we’d really appreciate if you could open up about your execution story – how did you go from idea to execution?
Simple – I was in the army for 16 years and held some very important positions and had to make difficult decisions leading soldiers in life and death situations . Been responsible for millions of dollars. One of the most important thing growing through the ranks in the military to become a great leader you need to be a good follower.
Going into my last year in the army I got severely hurt in ranger school ( broke my hip) which ended my career and medically forced to retire . I had a very imprecise resume to find a job in which I did very quick but realized working for someone became difficult because my standards were so high ! So I took the chance and started scorpion asphalt and concrete and just believed in my mission to be successful!
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I’m 39 years old
– came from a one parent home
-played college golf
-started my craft at 16
-joined the army out of high school in which I served 16 years
-I have a beautiful Daughter age 17
-currently own 2 business
-scorpion asphalt and concrete has a big following Facebook /instagram/tiktok
-I enforce integrity and quality as a buisness owner
Have you ever had to pivot?
I can and it happened this year ! I learned that doing the right morale thing can cost you your buisness . When there is enough money involved that’s the only thing that matters to people wrong or right . I will not mention the company in who did this to me but I don’t know how they sleep at night not having values . So morale of the story know the company or ppl you are working for and cover YOU as you go along !
Can you talk to us about how you funded your business?
I didnt have the luxury with any capital I used my retirement and started from the bottom . With having control in starting small and then gradually build with each job
