We were lucky to catch up with Dylan Lamb recently and have shared our conversation below.
Dylan, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Early in your career, how did you think through the decision of whether to start your own firm or join an established firm?
From Independent Broker to Compass Partner: My Journey in Real Estate
When I first started in real estate back in 2014 with Keller Williams in Tallahassee, Florida, I was still finishing school. Not long after, I moved down to Delray Beach to pursue new opportunities and joined a few local firms to learn the South Florida market and get my feet wet.
As my business grew, I decided to branch out and open my own brokerage. Like many agents who make that leap, I believed I could continue serving my clients with the same level of professionalism, without paying high brokerage fees. For six years, I focused on helping agents grow their businesses, creating a low-split structure designed to help them keep more of their earnings and scale faster.
But over time, I realized that model wasn’t sustainable. Running a brokerage comes with far more overhead, management, and liability than one anticipates, and being the managing broker often pulls your focus away from the very thing that got you into real estate in the first place: helping clients.
Ultimately, I made the decision to move to Compass and brought my team of agents with me. That decision completely transformed my business for the better. It removed many of the day-to-day administrative burdens that had little to do with sales, and it allowed me to refocus on my clients and my passion for real estate.
Joining Compass gave me the best of both worlds, the ability to continue mentoring agents while leveraging the powerful technology, marketing, and support systems that help us operate at the highest level.
My advice to any agent considering branching out is this: join a reputable brokerage or team that provides strong backend support. It will allow you to hit the ground running, stay focused on what you do best, and build a business that’s both fulfilling and sustainable.

Dylan, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My name is Dylan Lamb, and I’m a South Florida real estate broker and co-founder of Lamb Residential Group at Compass. I’m originally from Tampa, Florida, but after graduating from Florida State University with a degree in Economics, life had other plans, the love of my life brought me back to her hometown of Boca Raton, and I quickly fell in love with the South Florida lifestyle.
I first got into real estate during college. At the time, I could see Tallahassee rapidly evolving, and with my background in economics, I was drawn to the natural rhythm of supply and demand that defines real estate. It felt like the perfect intersection of data, strategy, and human connection.
Starting out in a new city where I didn’t know anyone wasn’t easy. But with the support of my wife and her family, I learned the ins and outs of the South Florida market, the neighborhoods, the nuances, and, most importantly, the people who make this area so special. Over time, that foundation helped us build what Lamb Residential Group is today.
Today, we’re proud to lead a team of passionate agents under the Compass umbrella. Our philosophy is simple: a team built on relationships, community, and delivering exceptional client experiences at every price point. We take a full-service, modern approach to real estate, blending strategic marketing, strong negotiation, and white-glove client service with Compass’s innovative technology and nationwide reach.
From local move ups to second homes and new-construction developments, our mission is to make every step of the process seamless. We want our clients to feel supported, informed, and celebrated from the first meeting through closing, and long after.
What truly sets us apart is our personal touch and attention to detail. We treat every transaction as if it were our own and every client as part of our extended family. For us, real estate isn’t just about buying or selling a home, it’s about helping people create the lifestyle they’ve always envisioned.
At the end of the day, we’re real people who care deeply about what we do. We show up, we communicate, we celebrate your wins, and we’re here for you well beyond the closing table.

How’d you meet your business partner?
I actually met my business partner in college. She was my girlfriend at the time and my biggest supporter from day one. I was just getting started in real estate, and she believed in me before anyone else did. She stuck by my side through every stage, including when I opened my own brokerage, and I encouraged her to get her real estate license and help me on the side.
Eventually, we decided to officially join forces under Compass and grow our team together. Not long after, she became my wife, and the rest is history. Today, I handle more of the real estate sales and negotiation side, while she’s the backbone of everything marketing, client relations, and team building. We balance each other perfectly, each bringing our own strengths to the table, and that’s what allows us to support our clients and our team at the highest level.”

Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
A time in the business when I really had to pivot was when I decided to sell my brokerage. It was a tough decision because I had poured so much time, energy, and heart into building it. But I realized that to truly grow, I needed to get back to what I do best, serving clients, building relationships, and focusing on the part of real estate that inspired me to get into the business in the first place.
Looking back, I wish I had made that move even sooner, especially when Compass was just starting to expand into my region. But everything happens in the right timing. Joining Compass allowed me to refocus, scale our business, and surround myself with the tools and network that aligned with the vision I had all along.”
