Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Dylan Dahle. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Dylan, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Let’s start with education – we’d love to hear your thoughts about how we can better prepare students for a more fulfilling life and career.
I think it’s become more and more unfair to purport the need for a college degree in today’s re-engineered workforce. Sure, we want our surgeons and our lawyers and our bankers to have a degree. However, the current workforce is much different now than it was when I was first peddled the line, “a college education is central to being successful as an adult.” Since March-April of 2020, when the unemployment rate jumped nearly 10% in the U.S., the job market has changed. Applicants wield all of the power. Remote jobs are much more prevalent than they were three years ago, and that’s a trend that will likely remain steady. The fact of the matter is, employers are much more willing to hire someone with no college experience if they, in turn, have flexibility, a will to learn, and a good attitude. We need to start teaching high school students about saving young, spending their time wisely, and building good habits that will directly correlate with their success. If I had been taught how a 30-year mortgage works at 16, 17 years old, I’d be in a much different state of mind. Hell, most of my classmates, friends, and associates would all have a different relationship with money and time if they knew then how the world we were about enter into, would be.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
Sure thing! My name is Dylan Dahle, and I’m a real estate broker with Full Circle Real Estate in Ashland, Oregon. I entered into real estate somewhat coincidentally, and at what seemed like the worst time to do it: March 2020. For a week, everything was fine, and then things really started to hit the fan. However, the pandemic turned out to be a blessing in disguise for my career path; as interest rates shot down, business started to pick up, and that meant a ton of learning on the spot, in one of the most complex market changes of this century. I was an assistant to a single real estate agent in Reno, Nevada for almost two years when I was offered the chance to be a transaction coordinator in Ashland, and the rest is history.
I’ve been the transaction coordinator at Full Circle for the past 2.5 years, and I activated my real estate license last year. At Full Circle, our mission is “inspiring our clients, each other and our community by the way we do business.” That’s what sets us apart from our competition. Having been in the real estate industry for the past four years, I’ve seen firsthand why some real estate agents and brokerages succeed, and why some don’t. Full Circle’s success is directly correlated to our process, which, from start to end, is all based around our clientele. We serve you, not the other way around.
As a new broker, I’m always on the search to find someone looking for their next home in the beautiful Rogue Valley. Whether you’re looking for your first home, an investment property, or the home you know you’ll live in forever, we’ve got you covered. I know I’m very new to the game, but that’s where my team comes in. At Full Circle, we don’t compete like bigger offices tend to do. We’re open and honest, and we’re constantly working together to make sure that not one of our clients feels lesser than another. We have a combined 170 years (at least) of experience within our crew of eleven brokers, and we work together to find simple solutions to complex problems. If you’re looking to relocate to a truly magical place, look no further than Ashland, and look no further than Full Circle Real Estate to help you find your dream home.
Do you have any insights you can share related to maintaining high team morale?
Though I’m not a manager, I’ve been a part of countless teams over my lifetime. In my opinion, one shouldn’t be ascertaining the answer to this question from a manager. The answer should come from the managed.
Humor is a wonderful tool that works incredibly well, from my experience. A leader should lead, but should also laugh. A productive and nurturing environment often stems from shared values and personal anecdotes; the more you learn about a person and what drives them, the more likely that same kind of person will attract people like them. If you have a team member who’s underperforming, take them out for a beer, tell them a story that will make them feel something, and then get into the nitty gritty. Not many people nowadays like the type of person who gets straight to business; they want to know that a person is inside and exists within the persona that is often presented.
Are there any books, videos or other content that you feel have meaningfully impacted your thinking?
A book that I’ve found to keep delivering every time I read it is Tim Ferriss’ The Four Hour Workweek. This book changed how I look at time, and how we spend it. Time is our most valuable asset. Without it, we are nothing. See the Magic Bank Account (below) for more on time. Tim Ferriss is one of the most brilliant entrepreneurs to have come across my desk. He’s innovative, exciting, and always has cool projects up his sleeve. I highly recommend this, along with the other ‘Four Hour’ books, for anyone wanting an overall “reset.”
In terms of essays, two come to mind: Steve Jobs’ last essay and the Magic Bank Account.
Steve Jobs’ last essay changed the way I looked at health, professionally and personally, and has made me realize that the most important things in this life will never be found in the office. Find a place to work that places importance on your well-being, in all aspects. Read it here: https://strategylab.ca/final-
I was just sent a link to the Magic Bank Account a few weeks ago. Now, it’s framed in our office. There’s a reason. Read it at this link: https://thesfa.net/the-magic-
