We recently connected with Dylan Berry and have shared our conversation below.
Dylan, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Can you recount a story of an unexpected problem you’ve faced along the way?
How the fear of criticism debilitates your forward progress in life, carer and pursuit of happiness.
Dylan, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Life has a way of throwing curveballs. Growing up by a lake next to Mt. St. Helens, I was witness to one of nature’s most powerful spectacles. When the mountain erupted, it changed everything. We lost our home, our memories; essentially, everything we had was taken away in an instant. This twist of fate brought my family to Seattle. Soon after our move, my parents decided to part ways. Navigating these challenges as a kid wasn’t easy.
In an attempt to find my voice amidst the chaos and to cope as the new kid in school, I turned to music. It became more than just melodies and rhythms. It was my sanctuary, a universal language that allowed me to connect and break barriers. And, it set me on a path I hadn’t imagined.
One thing led to another, and soon, I was on a brief tour with the likes of Fishbone. That tour, those moments, they landed me in L.A., and my journey in the global entertainment industry truly began.
While the details of my career may seem elaborate, it’s the underlying stories, the experiences, the relationships, and the moments of growth that truly matter. Each accomplishment, each highlight, is a testament to the journey, the challenges faced, and the resilience to keep moving forward.
Career Highlights:
Recognized as a “Cultural Force Multiplier” for my contributions in blending music, art, and culture and is a leading consultant for companies seeking to scale their Entertainment industry focused businesses in Hollywood and beyond.
Played a significant role in the success of ventures like Badanamu and Kidsloop, achieving monumental growth in a short span.
Founded and led SmashHaus, serving as a nexus for global entertainment giants since 2008.
Collaborated with esteemed platforms and ceremonies including the Oscars, Emmy Awards, American Idol, MTV Music Awards, and more.
Received over 28 Platinum records and recognized as one of the “top 1% most prolific media music creators” by IMDB.
Served as the former Host, Voice, and Program Director of Soundcloud Radio, reaching a vast community.
Spearheaded NordicLA, promoting art and cultural exchange, and championed business initiatives in East and Southern Africa.
Contributed as a vital member of Mercurius Media Capital as Advisor pairing leading media companies with growth stage startups, an investment platform.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
My primary goal is simple yet profound: to do amazing things that align with my life’s mission. I’m committed to building a tight-knit community of creative and business leaders who share this vision, ensuring that, together, we amplify our impact and drive meaningful change in the entertainment world and beyond.
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
For a long time, my debilitating fear of criticism became the chains that held me back, preventing me from truly realizing my potential. But once I broke free from that stifling fear, I was not only able to manifest many of my aspirations but also to do so without the encumbrance or friction of feeling constrained. I came to understand a fundamental truth: more often than not, we are our own most significant obstacles. It’s our own self-doubt, amplified by negative voices, that stalls our forward momentum. Progress is born from conviction, and conviction can only truly thrive in the soil of confidence. By eradicating my fear of criticism, I discovered an unshackled freedom, a liberation to be my authentic self and pursue my dreams.
