We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful D’Yani St.Cyr. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with D’Yani below.
D’Yani , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Almost all entrepreneurs have had to decide whether to start now or later? There are always pros and cons for waiting and so we’d love to hear what you think about your decision in retrospect. If you could go back in time, would you have started your business sooner, later or at the exact time you started?
I am happy I have started my business when I did.. In 2003, I graduated with a bachelors degree in marketing. After graduating I worked a number of corporate jobs and had my daughter in 2005. 2013 I started my brand Grin’d&Bearit while working 13 hour shifts. I would work on the business on my lunch breaks, off days, and when I got off work. It was very difficult working and starting a business, but the business motivated me to want better. I used money from working to establish my business. I’m glad I did not start sooner than I did because I needed the experience working in corporate environments to understand how business is structured and managed. Also building a business takes a lot of hours, time, and commitment. I have learned the key to operating a business is patience. The world of business is constantly changing, with various highs and lows. Maturity has enabled me to withstand challenges while growing a notable brand.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My name is D’Yani St.Cyr and I am owner of Grin’d&Bearit. Grin’d&Bearit is a lifestyle brand established in 2013. Our mission encourages individuals to endure, persevere, and succeed through faith in God. As a clothing brand, Grin’d&Bearit has been featured on national television, worn by entertainers within music & film, and exhibited in various marketplaces and trade shows, such as the Las Vegas Magic Trade show. 2023 marks the 10 year anniversary of Grin’d&Bearit. Through hard work, dedication and faith in God, I have been blessed to turn what started as a lifestyle brand, into an entertainment conglomerate. Outside of fashion, I have always had a passion for film. In 2022 I started film school at The Los Angeles Film School in Los Angeles, CA. Currently, I am a sophomore with a 3.85 grade point average, pursuing a BS in Film Production. I never planned on going back to school at 44 years old, but God’s divine timing prepared me for such a moment as this. At a time when I thought my dreams were dead and unattainable, I wake up everyday with an immense amount of joy and gratitude. Grin’d&Bearit gave birth to the bigger vision, Grind&Bearit Worldwide. Grin’d&Bearit Worldwide is the unification of entertainment, fashion, and business. I encourage all readers of this wonderful publication to “NEVER GIVE UP”. No matter the circumstances, no matter the obstacles, be strong and keep the faith.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being an artist/creative are the lives I am able to transform. When I am asked about my brand, I have the privilege to share my testimony and offer encouragement and hope. As creatives we have the unique ability to uplift. “Art imitates life” is the best summary of what we as artist and creatives do. I’m able to create visual masterpieces through fashion and film that tells the various stories of human experiences.
Do you think there is something that non-creatives might struggle to understand about your journey as a creative? Maybe you can shed some light?
Everyone has a certain level of creativity. As human beings we are all gifted in various ways. My journey as a creative is relatable because I have to be resourceful and committed to make the vision come to light. The struggle is real and universal. I can be creative all I want, but being creative is costly. As a single parent for 17 years, I have had to work, hustle, and use my creative abilities to survive.
