We recently connected with Dwayne Calienté and have shared our conversation below.
Dwayne, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. So let’s jump to your mission – what’s the backstory behind how you developed the mission that drives your brand?
My mission is to be able to use my platform to uplift, inspire, challenge, and create. When I was an adolescent I was not sure what I wanted to do with my life; but growing up I was always very creative. I made scrap books and school projects where I had to make a visual, always excited me. By the time I was a teenager, I was going to one of my favorites idols live concert (Ciara). I had front row tickets and I wanted to look my best. This is where I first attempted “make-up”. I wanted my brows to be fuller so I filled them in and concealed them. From there I always say that “it was love at first stroke”. Over the next couple of years I got more into the beauty industry, I watched countless youtube videos, took in person classes from some of my inspirations and eventually went and graduated from esthetician school. Doing make-up has always made me feel my best. I feel free, I feel most comfortable, I feel my purpose in soul, I feel as if I’m a creative visionary. The love and passion that I have for makeup artistry has helped me help others along in their journey, share my story…both ups and downs, connect with so many dope individuals, and overall has helped me stay hungry and creative. I want to build my platform on love and execution. I strive to give my clients an experience and a positive experience at that and I always want to do great work and do the very best I can. I want to use my platform to help others, help friends, and help family. I want to give back financially and be able to travel all over the world and physically help the communities. I want to be successful and I want to be the best. I want my platform to help make make more opportunities for other endeavors that I also want to embark on. The sky is the limit and I want everyone to believe that from me and my testimony.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
Wassup; I am Dwayne Calienté. I am a makeup artist originally from Texas that now resides in Georgia. I am also a licensed esthetician, a permanent makeup artist, a content creator, owner of an online store, and co-host of an upcoming “podcast style show”.
The very start of it all was when I was going to my very first concert and I wanted to look my best. I was first introduced to “makeup” at that moment. To be successful in this industry you have to have major discipline and never get comfortable because the beauty industry is constantly evolving everyday. I provide makeup services, micro blading, facials, one on one classes, and customized experiences. I also have an online store where I sell my own beauty products and merchandise. What sets me apart is that I am always in competition with myself and never anyone else, I strive to be better than I was the day before and I never get comfortable. I am thirsty for more knowledge of my craft and I am never “satisfied”. I take pride in my work, this isn’t just “a side hustle” this is my life, this is my calling and I always strive to execute and give my clients the very best experience. This is ultimately what makes me proudest because I know that whenever clients come sit in my chair I give it my all…and never take any of it for granted.
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
Being a full time entrepreneur is not easy. I work 24/7 for my brand. I also have to be strong because one week I can bring in $5,000 and literally the next week it can be $1,000. Also, within this industry it is always late nights/early mornings and working every weekend. So I miss out on a lot of “fun”….my typical weekend is filled with work and never just hanging with friends/family, so there is sacrifice. I would not change a thing though. The rewards and impact I have a far much greater.
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
The beauty of being an artist is that the creativity is limitless for me. I always try and think outside of the box and one up myself. I feel as if I am a creative visionary so whatever “crazy” ideas come to mind I always implement and execute based off of that.
