We were lucky to catch up with D’Vontre Dotson recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, D’Vontre thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. When did you first know you wanted to pursue a creative/artistic path professionally?
I’ve always been a creative individual in anything that I’ve involved myself in. I always loved it myself but when I realized other folks appreciated the aesthetics of my work that’s when I knew it was time to take my ideas seriously. In my later years of high school (2018) is when I started crafting clothing for someone other than myself to wear. It was more of a hustle at first but when the opportunity to start an actual brand fell in my hands I executed. Now T’FUŁA Attire is my passion, my addiction, my thriving business.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
My whole life I’ve been dripped out (stylish for those that don’t know the slang). Even when I only had a limited amount of clothing due to being a lower class individual growing up, I would always be able to put outfits together very playa-like 🔥 I even use those same aspects throughout my brand today: work with what I have and work it RIGHT!
How can we best help foster a strong, supportive environment for artists and creatives?
I think the mass population can support creatives in a broader light by simply not being so ‘stiff’ on what is cool to them. We live in a society where ‘Trendy’ is the only thing folks want to be involved in, open your eyes and actually find what YOU like, not because your favorite public figure is supporting it.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The most rewarding aspect about being a creative is bringing the ideas in your head to a complete product. Whether your target market clings to it or not, it brings the sense of fulfillment to your artistic heart and soul.
